Wizards and Star Players during Play-offs?
Hey everyone,
I wanted to get some opinions. Should Wizards and/or Star Players be allowed in league play-off matches?
I have currently made a ruling that they are not allowed. But would anyone have compelling arguments otherwise?
I will be allowing all the other inducements, however.
Cheers,
Michael

We ban them both, but then we don't like the use of Stars during the regular season (to common for us).

If you're going to ban anything it should be the wizard. Star players don't regularly make or break a game often enough to merit a banning IMO.

Never said they make or break, we just feel having a Star Player should be something special, not an everyday event.

Why ban either? We allow both (and cards) and generally its a tough ask to overturn a big TV gap anyway. If your underdog is 150k down on an opponent, that's equivalent to 7 skills... I know which Id prefer. what's the argument for banning?

Always prefered what the teams about, not what freebies it can get.

Re: Wizards and Star Players during Play-offs?
I voted to let them both play. Although I could qualify that by saying that where leagues run for multiple seasons, with rookies playing advanced teams and you get massive TV differences both should be allowed as the cards are waaaay over-priced compared to the other inducements. By having wizards and Stars a large TV underdog might at least have a chance of pulling off an upset.
If all the starting teams in the league were rookies/were of the same cohort then I wouldn't have a problem with banning them as then there is more encouragement for team development rather than trimming/TV sweet-spotting all the time (which I personally think undesirable). Although this would favour the heavyweight bashers to the detrement of the agile teams, this is tempered by the fact that agile teams generally get better value out of relatively low cost inducements like the wizard (and Edril for Elves).

We let both in in FUMBBL and it's a lot of fun.

We allow wizards but not Stars in the playoffs so that is how I voted.
Just doesn't seem right being able to hire a ringer for a playoff game.

Re: Wizards and Star Players during Play-offs?
In the past I was of the "ban them both" persuasion.
Now I'm for allowing them both: my reasoning is that if they are "fair" in normal games, why are they not "fair" in the play-offs?

We let both. I have seen both swing games in the playoffs (I even lost one on a well-placed lightning bolt). It's part of the flavor of the game so I don't have an issue. I think you'd get more of what you want if you let MNG reheal before the beginning of the playoffs (keep stat busts and niggles but the players play).

Re: Wizards and Star Players during Play-offs?
The rules are balanced and tested with the assumption both of those are available. Some teams (flings and goblins, mostly) need them to be competitive. All leagues I'm in allow both, as it evens things out a little bit, but not as much as the straight skills do.

Actually, the league guidelines in the rulebook suggest you not allow Star Players in the postseason. I think those suggestions are pretty far out of line with how most leagues play, though. We allow all inducements.

We ban them both.
We don't allow wizards (even in league time), and as per rules guidelines we don't allow the use of Stars (only) in postseason.
