Discuss Fantasy football-style board games - GW's Blood Bowl, Impact!'s Elfball, Privateer Press' Grind, Heresy's Deathball, etc. THIS IS NOT AN NFL FANTASY FOOTBALL SITE!
A forum for football mini's talk.......painting, converting etc. etc. or showing off great accessories that make playing the game easier, cooler or more fun.
Gronlokk wrote:I also have another question about the trollcast material: when I got the Sarcos team it looked like the different miniatures had been cast in different materials. Some of them were dark grey and others were a lighter grey. I am not able to describe it any better than that, but I liked the darker grey a lot better, as it seemed to me that the details were even better with that material.
Better raw or better after being primed with the same product?
The color is just a product of the amount of dye that was added to the mix. Each batch is a custom mix of chemicals so there could be minor variations in the feel of a figure but it is not a new vs old. And yes Darkson is correct ... Ed is constantly working on his formula to make the material better.
So dark grey vs light grey vs off-white is all dependent on how much grey dye was added into the compound after it was mixed up. Talking to painters ... one does not have more details then the other after being primed. The color difference is an optical effect for how much detail your eye picks up is what I've been told.
And Steam Ball ... you are correct ... I just wanted to mention in response to that ... that we regularly pay to replace the moulds to keep quality high. We just paid for a new Amazon mould just 2 weeks ago as an example and that team is just a year old.

Those Diving Bell Warriors and Deep Ones team is awesome - though it does completely torpedo (get it?) the underwater team I was designing. Maybe I can still send Tom my idea for Shark Blitzers!
Also, NEW SCULPTS for the Divine Wind! Woot!

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.
Thanks, those are great! My designs had actual sharks in mech suits that gave them arms and legs while allowing them to "breathe" on land. The suits looked a lot like the Diving Bell Warriors actually!
Maybe I'll finally try my hand at sculpting something, always wanted to get at least one model I sculpted into production...
Anyway, I digress! I will definitely be pledging for those Divine Wind minis, maybe the Deep Ones as well!

Exactly the case. The dye is just to give the plastic a pleasing colour because the natural colour is pretty unpleasant. Even identical amounts of dye can produce a different tone from one batch to another.
The darker the finished product and the more detail you can see. If it's very pale you can't see as much.
Also a good example of why brown or grey undercoats are better than black or white; you can see the detail more.

Yup ... I was taught when in the miniature painting class I took many many many moons ago to prime white and undercoat in brown and then start painting.
I've learned more since but as a basic starting point for teaching someone was a good starting point for learning for me.

Phil Bowen says I should be able to show off the new Desert Dogs teams by next Monday that will be part of the KickStarter.
Also caster has confirmed that he was able to put in all the models that I wanted for the Deadling team. So that is looking like it will be about a 25 model team for $35 as part of the KickStarter. I updated the front page for that information and as soon as I get confirmation of what exact models are in the team mold ... I'll post that.

Just finalized the contract to include the RAFM Reptiliad Fantasy Football team as part of the KickStarter. Been a fan of this team for a long time ... very glad to have been able to obtain a license to it.
