New GW Tempestus Scions as Human Bloodbowl team?

Post by spubbbba »

I think the Tempestus Scions from GW have a lot of potential for making a human Bloodbowl team. The backpacks are optional, though I'm not quite sure what their backs look like without them.
But I like that they do have quite a close look to sports equipment so wouldn't need a lot of the tech bits taken off.

Image
The heads are a bit too high tech but I could see that drilling out the facemasks and replacing them with bare heads and then adding a bar across the helmet.

They'd be great as Dreadball players too.

£21 for 5 is pretty expensive (it is GW) but it should be possible to sell off some of the spare bits hopefully.

If nothing else there's now another nice looking pointed arm piece on the market for conversion peeps to buy off of bits stores.

beautiful minis, but the torso reminds me a chaos armour rather than an imperial guard one

The make or break thing for me is if its possible to construct these without backpacks with only a small amount of filling. From the look of the sprues that may not be possible, and having to sculpt a whole new back, at £4 a model, would be a major turn off.

If doable then combining with the puppetswar football zombie heads could be a decent option.

I suspect they'd combine well with bits from the Empire greatswords box for a nice Warhammer fantasy football feel.

Good point, they would be a possible option as Chaos Marauders as well. Just add some chaos knight heads and a few more spikes and you're good to go.

I think they look great. GW makes the absolute best plastic miniatures, so even though there are alternatives you can't get better plastic models.

For me (and most BB players I know) plastic in a minus not a plus.
I'll take resin or restic over plastic.
I would never think "let's make a plastic team".
A plastic miniature must be a lot better looking and/or cheaper than its metal equivalent for me to buy it.

GW plastic has superb quality. Resin is never even close, even though the models themselves have greater detail than multipart plastics. Ease of conversion and durability would be my biggest pluses for plastic BB teams. Metal models carry detail well and has a great feel to them when playing. Resin... is just cheap I guess.

I'm sorry if I'm coming over as bossy. This is just what I think :)

Don't mind plastic, resin or metal, whatever makes a good team.

Not sure on these.

And having seen some of the plastics kits available I'm not even sure GW make the best plastics anymore.

Those minis don't scream BB as far as I'm concerned. Somebody somewhere could probably do something great with them, but it's not going to be me ;)

I agree, the kit-basher in my sees a lot of potential on these guys. The three biggest challenges would be their heads, their backs (pending that backpack issue that's been noted), and their arms/hands. Models holding predominately rifles/guns are far harder to weapon snip and reposition than models holding close-combat weapons.

Still, I think they're doable. The price is surprisingly prohibitive, though. One option might be for folks to use a box of these to make four Blitzers and one "Star" (Griff/Zug) to round out an out-of-the-box plastic human team from the base game. They'd certainly look a bit stockier and more intimidating than the standard sculpt blitzer, which I've never cared for, and would be the appropriate focus of the team. I'm almost tempted to try this myself, as up to now I've just been using four of the original blue plastic second edition humans as my blitzers, which have enough charm for me. Though these models are making my kit-bashing urges itch just enough...

Too bloody expensive. Once again GW decide on their UK and US prices then pluck a randomly massive number out of the air for their NZ stores.
