Retiring Vampire Lords

Post by Darkson »

Using the list at http://www.midgardbb.com/GWTeams/GWRosters.html , would other coahes agree that the rules for this team forbid the retiring of the Vampire Lord?

This could be another (small) negative for this team ( a good thing IMO).

I would say yes, the only time u can get one is when the team is made or the original dies.

This guy is so pompous that he's not just content to coach, he actually takes the pitch. I don't think he'd ever admit he needs to retire.

I'd say, "NO!". He can't be retired, "Yes" the rules should prohibit this.

I didn't realize the new Lord gets +1 St and +1 AV. I think that's crap.

I've added a poll.

I'm voting "no", they can't retire.

(Lives in fear of the day his Lord ages :( )

I say Yes. The Vampire Lord is the coach, i.e. he is directly representing the human being coaching the team. If he wants to retire, how can you say no?

You can only retire players - the Lord is head coach so there are no rules to let him retire.

Lets face it, its a very cheesy thing to do.

Well just go and stand next to some Piling On mummies or Big Guys. They'll soon sort you out.

Vampires have to have a downside, and this, IMO, is one of the smaller ones.

Chances are better that they increase your number off Niggles.

I think if you give him all of the bonusses and disadvantages of being a coach/player, then it sorts eachother out. Take the Random event where you can pick someone of the coaching staff to not appear for this match. You could pick the lord. You can also pick him as the player for other results.
So, you could be screwed both ways by random event rolls. It's also less of an incentive to argue calls with your lord.

Since lots of things target either a player or coach, means that he's more often a target than other players. If these disadvantages do count, then you should be able to at least let him retire when he starts to suck.

No you can't. It says any coaching staff except the Head coach (that's why always the apothecary goes down the bin 8) )

We have to understand that the fact that the Vampire lord is a "playing coach" is a negative thing in overall to balance this team. Intuitively, if you want to retire your head coach (aka YOU) then you would have to start entirely a new team. The rule which says that you have to promote a lesser vampire in case of the lord vampires death is just an emergency rule which shall prevent to disband a whole team bc. one players dies. You should not argue on that ticket IMHO.

Perhaps one rule could be:

The Lord can retire if after a game he rolls a d6 and gets less than his niggling injuries...

I think this would make the Lord stay even after some damage, but let the coach retire if he gets bad enought...

Granted, good points, I thought the lord was a viable target for randmom events as well, but if he isn't. Then that is actually a pity. I can live with a crippled coach who plays occasionaly.

Actually, the Vampire lord can be target of random Handicap/Kick-Off results as anybody else (throw rock, pitch invasion, assasin etc.) but only for the case you mentioned (the handicap result where you remove one of his coaching staff), he can not be target. :) .

BTW, if you fear that your Vampire Lord will be target of some nasty random effect, he will be for sure. If you don't mind, he never gets affected. :D

The vampire lord is BOTH a player AND a coach. Rules for BOTH apply. Kickoff results, handicaps both can affect him ("select a random player"). Therefore, he can be retired just like any other player.

If you try to say "He's a coach, and only players can retire", then you are also saying that kickoff results and handicaps do not effect him.
