Old one looks a bit less flexed, so the other would be bigger if straight, which is how all models should be measured (otherwise a 54mm Napoleonic would be fine for BB... if sitting in a chair). Or maybe the side vs front views. But, no, I think the old one is less flexed.

@TheDancingClown: you're right about the importance of liking your own team and not trying to fit into other's standards. Thanks for the comparison photo; there is not much difference in scale between both figs, so this looks fine to me.

"A lot" is stretching this a bit. 
Grey one is not "a lot" harder to paint. Sometimes it also comes to what and how is modelled.
