BB Scoreboard/Jungle Temple

Now that I'm back from an awesome seven weeks in Europe, it's time to get back into gaming and building stuff!

Start of the first of two combined dugouts & turn/reroll trackers.



The two platforms and the area between them are the three standard BB dugout areas - Reserve/KO/Morgue - and the roof will incorporate a turn tracker, a first half/second half indicator and rerolls. The whole thing is going to have a slightly larger footprint than a standard BB dugout/tracker from the boxed set.

The second dugout/tracker will be similar but might not be as elaborate; this is the home team's I'm building right now (I think, anyway...).

Might also do a small dice tower/temple, just for the heck of it, after I finish the two dugouts.

Current state of the dugout/tracker temple build:


Main structure basically complete, a few detail bits left to glue on, then lots of carving of foam and putty work! For scale, the base is 7.5" wide, 6" deep, and the whole thing is just under 4" tall. The skull marker is on a 25mm slottabase.

Three dugout spaces across the front, and the roof has eight turn tracking square down one side, a first half/second half indicator in the larger blocks at the peak, and re-rolls down the other side.

I've also built a small dice tower, mostly because I don't have enough mattboard to start the second dugout.


The whole setup is intended to fit into the shoebox the dugout is sitting on in the photo above; I do pretty much all my gaming away from home so portability is important!

The dice tower temple is the smallest of the four and going to be the most overgrown and battered. I'm going to try out using string soaked in white glue for vines and roots, which I've seen people use on jungle terrain to good effect elsewhere but not tried out myself.

The two dugouts and the already-finished scoreboard temple will all be fairly clean of vines and overgrowth. The dugout temples are supposed to have player figures and markers on them during play, so that limits the amount of extra stuff they can have covering them.

Haven't taken a picture in the last day or two but the dice tower has had a lot of putty work done to add details and reinforce various areas where the dice could batter the foam construction, and stone carving is proceeding on both the dice tower and the one dugout.

I've also finally restocked my supply of mattboard, so I can begin construction of the second dugout this weekend (it's a long weekend here, yay) and have the last building of the set started.

Other way around, more or less.

I use an Xacto to cut shallow lines to define the edges of the stones, then use a pencil to widen the cut lines. I'll sometimes go back with the knife to widen a gap or reshape a stone, but not usually.

Honestly, I'm a much lazier terrain builder than TerrainWench. Her stonework is fantastic, mine is much, much easier to do and more tolerant of sloppy cutting!

The dice tower is basically finished and needs only painting; I didn't get a photo of it, though.

The dugout has had some decoration added. On the front wall above the three dugout areas, I've put the crocodile-head logo of my BB lizardman team, which is based on the Mayan cipactli crocodile glyph.



On the back wall... is something that needs the full story told. Our BB league commish also runs an Orc team in our league, and sometimes writes up his game reports in the voice of "Mistah Big", an Orcish coach. After thumping the other Lizard team in the league 2-0 the Orc was heard to remark, “Herd der is some [Lizards] dat look like those Crocodiles on dem Golf shirts everyone is wearing dees days; CHOMP!!! CHOMP!!!!”

I kind of took that remark and ran with it for the decoration on the back wall of the temple...




Both images need a fair bit of cleaning up and some details added, but the last major area to do is the tracking tiles that make up the roof, then it's off to painting for this dugout!

Felt pitch now has green spraypaint and most of the white field lines added; I'm doing a team logo stencil in the centre so I'll touch up the rest of the centreline after the graphic is in place. The two endzones also need field lines on the three outer edges; the masking tape I was using was too wide to do both those and the inside lines and I couldn't be bothered to go buy a narrower roll of masking tape!

Elsewhere on this project, assembly of the second dugout temple is complete and decoration (stonework, etc) has started; the first dugout temple has most of it's basic painting done, as does the dice tower temple. I've also gone back to the scoreboard temple and made a couple of small modifications to make it easier to use - the weather indicator cube in the centre was prone to falling out of it's alcove and tumbling down the stairs, so I'm modifying the alcove it fits into slightly.

After doing the croc head centre stencil I just had to lay everything out to see how it'll look once complete!



Lots of work left to do, but it's coming together. There's the dugout temples on either end, and the scoreboard and dice tower temple in the centre.

Progress is continuing, slowly, on this project!

Carving of the stonework on both big dugout temples is done; they're currently mostly primered black and are having Milliput detailing applied as required. No photos because it's hard to get reasonable photos of solid black things!

Eventually. I have some extra Impact Croclings I want to do Apothecary and maybe Cheerleader figures with.

In the meantime, the various temples have acquired some paint!



The original, finished scoreboard is top left; in front of it is the dice tower and the ceremonial pool/dice catch bin - that pair still need the magnets installed that will keep them together while in use.

The righthand dugout temple still has two spots reserved at the front of the centre dugout for a pair of small statues of crocodile heads; they're in progress but not solid enough yet to stand up to painting, so not attached yet!

Both dugout temples still need Reserve/KO/CAS symbols on each of the three dugout spaces, but at this point I'm not even sure what sort of symbols I want to use, hence the empty circles reserved for them...

All the buildings still need some washes to dull the colours down a bit and drybrushing to pop the stonework and edges, but that won't take long tomorrow.

Also, thanks to folks here (via PM) and elsewhere for suggestions for symbols for the dugout areas, I've got the dugout areas done.

Not the greatest photo, blame late night photography, but it'll do...



Borrowed the block dice symbols from BB, more or less. Push arrow for reserves, "Boom" for KO, skull for CAS.

Also did a bunch of weathering of the buildings in various ways... very little of which is visible in the photo above! I'll try to get some decent daylight photos soon.

That's the whole BB pitch setup done except for putting the magnets into the dice tower/pool setup, which I'm going to try to get done over the long weekend coming up.
