Can I point out I received very little sympathy for my Troll. I spent five games saving up for him. He rolled stupid three times then died. And I was playing Skaven. Doesn't that make it worse?

Unbelievable to even me, but I played the luckiest coach on earth, 50k down, costing me a dead rotter (with 4spp ), but I spread out the offense (keeping his guard lineman and guard deathroller usually apart) and even survived a turn 10, triple injury results, to turn over the squat fromagers twice and win 2-0!

I had three rotters dead, dead and -ST in my last league match against near rookie Orcs. My only remaining rotter is a -MA who missed the match due to injury. I've played seven games total and lost five rotters. Is this how it goes? The rest of the roster has been largely untouched, they seem to be a sort of sacrificial cathode!

Indeed. Rotters have a very high CAS rate. Hardly surprising since 5/9 of Rotter CAS will be dead or permanently injured. Only Halflings and Snotlings suffer a higher CAS rate, I believe.

In leagues, once I have 3 or 4 Pests, I rarely put a Rotter on the defensive LoS. I put a rookie Pest there instead, I usually have one, it's more cost-effective.

Another side of the same coin is that Rotter skill-ups are very precious, and must be chosen with care. I have never got beyond 29 SPPs with a Rotter! My preferred development route is Block/Fend/Foul Appearance, to protect the Rotter and prolong his life (and skills). Block/Foul Appearance/Fend would no doubt be good too. +AV works well on them.
