Madshermans Skaven conversion thread.

Post by Madsherman »

I really really like Skaven.. it's almost the only "evil" team I like.

However, being the insane figure fetishist that I am, I never played them tabletop, because I couldn't fathom the conversion work, what with all the muto-acces and all (and I don't want to play with minis that don't represent the mutations *rolleyes*). Until now. I just got hold of some Crypt ghouls, clanrats, various stormvermin and pink horror bits and a sh*t-ton of magnets, so now I'll create a team with interchangeable heads and arms.. Is there anybody who has experience with this? Any tips?

I do have absolutly nothing valuable to contribute!

Yo,

I'm putting the finishing touches to a similar skaven team that I'll be taking the to NAFc.

I used ghoul bodies with clan-rat heads and green stuff tails for the gutter runners and the rest are Stormvermin with weapon snips and a bit of green-stuff here and there. The rat-ogre is a good old-fashioned whfb rat ogre.

Something like this?

Or do you mean with the magnets? I did a bit of that for my chaos Pact team, if you have any specific questions I'd be more than happy to try and help.

Yeah it was more if anybody had seen a fully customizable magnet skaven team.. I guess I'm expecting problems with prehensile tails. I want to somehow circumvent using magnets for that.

I'm doing mutations right now... I'm doing 2 of each. IMO "extra arms" would be fine being an "extra arm"

Or... just make a load of extra models and have a skaven army!

Image a bit of WIP... So far I've magnetized the linemen. The gutter runners need more GS work, since their bodies are crypt ghouls.

Btw, I love the new(er) GW rat ogres, but their legs look to be too far apart for a 3mm base :( Any tips? Can I use legs from an older rat ogre with the new upperbod?

If you mean the new rat ogres from the starter box then no, they are not separated in upper or lower body, more like front and back.
I have mine mounted on a 40 mm square base and by the look of it, you might be able to put those legs on a 30 mm base.
But still those massive arms will hang way over the base.

Oh, and by the way, I used Storm Vermin for my conversion.
The are larger, more upright and easier to convert / paint imho.

Hmm.. Looks like I have to go to bitzbox or sth.. I just really don't like the hands of the old ones.. I could get a stormfiend head, though.

Almost everyone I ever met had their big guy on a 40 mm base.
Why can't you?

This only gets to be a problem with ogre teams.

I think 40mm bases are just a tad too big... I like the bases to fit inside the squares. I use stormvermin for my blitzers as they look more armored/aggressive, and I like the cowering look of the clanrats for linemen.

Those rat ogres fit fine on 30mm bases.

But the arms... Ok, I have a plan: plastic last gen rat ogres legs, upperbodies a stormfiend head... Do anbody know of any ogre-sized arms that don't look as bad as these? Image
