The use of skaven thrower ...

Post by neverdodge »

Hi everyone,

I ll perhaps start a skaven team in our next season, and I just ask myself the following question :

Do a rookie skaven team really need a thrower ?

I mean i prefer buy one more Gutter than a rookie thrower, after all they are AG4 and can jandle the ball really well..

Here is my possible starting roster :

8 linerats
3 Gutter Runner
1 Rat ogre
3 reroll
FF 5

well the thrower is cheaper than a gutter runner

ag3 with sure hands is better for picking up the ball than just ag4

gutter runners get loads of spp already, they hog them in most skaven teams

the sooner the throwers get accurate and safe throw the better

you want to start with the storm vermin as well tbh, get them skills asap as with av8 they tend to last a bit longer

think i had
1 thrower
2 vermin
2 runners
6 linerats
3rr
9ff
20k left over

bit of a risk but it worked ;]

The only problem is with the team that ll take part of the league, i ve chosen to have 12 players and the ro :

1 rookie undead
1 rookie Norse
1 Exp Orc (TR200)

Skaven Throwers are highly underrated. Get them ASAP, and you'll see that they'll reward you in spades. They make your Gutter Runners much better.

I agree. Although gutter runners have 4 ag, skaven throwers are highly underrated. For being the same price as a gutter runner, they are great to start off a drive with sure hands and pass. They also can be decent ball handlers down the field, since they have 3 str, sure hands (to eliminate strip ball), and pass to reroll any passes to gutter runners. With the ball in a thrower's hands, you have more options that you do when you've got the ball in a gutter runner's hands.

Skaven throwers are the best non-elven throwers in the game. For a thrower, MA is much more important than AV, and they have 7 MA!

Personally I think the GR is much better than the Thrower. 2+ pickups, an extra two points of movement and initially better passing.

Who needs rerolls if you don't fail in the 1st place?

Saying that, you do want the throwers as once they develop they are better at passing that GRs.

So in a league I'd take them anyway, in a short competition, why bother?

Don't forget a Skaven thrower has access to passing skills/traits, a Gutter doesn't except when rolling doubles which could be better spend on mutations

I would always start with 2 skaven throwers in a league team.

Move 7 and Sure Hands / Pass are invaluable - keep the rerolls for when the gutter rolls a 1 on the catch!

I have to agree with Dangerous Dave on this one. 2 throwers on a skaven team rocks. They can move fast enough they can get into ideal possitions for passes. You rarely have to worry about interceptions because you can usually move to a free passing lane. They are also great for helping eachother out with SPP. When the game is winding down with a big lead, or a big loss, you can put them in the backfield and throw the ball back and forth for a few turns. Once you get one with accurate and one with hail mary pass, you can tangle with any team in the game. On top of all that, you can play them like linerats early on because all they are is linerats with pass and surehands. Something else to consider is that you probably don't want more than 2 gutter runners on the pitch at a time until they start gaining skills. Too many strength 2 players can really weaken you if they don't have block. So in my humble opinion, it is better to start with two throwers and two gutter runners and buy more gutter runners later.
