Re: How to pimp a 2nd Edition Astrogranite® pitch
Thanks, that is well worth considering. I plan to do it Saturday in two weeks, since I will be home alone then.
I would love to see other paint jobs. People, show your unique 2nd edition pitches!

Re: How to pimp a 2nd Edition Astrogranite® pitch
OKay, I painted my board and it turned out okay. Not great, but okay. I am thinking of redoing the whole thing, but it already took me so long to get it painted...
Anyway, my question is: how to varnish it? Probably spray varnish. But what do you use? Is there anything other than GW or ArmyPainter? I am a bit at a loss with this one since I usually just have a paint on varnish...
Thanks!

My mind may play tricks on me but I thnk they sealed self made pitches with watered down white hobby glue in the fantasy shop were we used to play.
Dunno if this might work with astrogrnite as well.

With mine the paint soaked nicely into the foam and didn't need varnish....

Wonder how hard it is to get a mould made for expanded regulation sized polystyrene pitches today...

Think I went OTT with mine...
Too much static grass in some places, so you can't see the squares cleanly and in other spots it's going bald...

In use, don't forget that the passing ruler is useless.... A passing chart helps, but interceptions should be two squares wide (58mm) on a current board and only (50mm?) wide on the second edition board.... Unless you don't mind and just gfi with the third edition ruler....

That implies throwing the ball, right?!
My Orcs don't do that!

Re: How to pimp a 2nd Edition Astrogranite® pitch
Nobody LIKES passing with Orcs but sometimes you have to
Some of the players in our league have larger boards than usual, and even on a standard board with a standard range ruler, people still argue about how you hold the ruler or whether someone really is underneath it.
So as a house rule, we don't use the ruler, but rather a passing table:

And an interception chart: The interception charts are clunky and nobody ever has one printed out and ready. But it's deterministic and as long as everyone agrees to use that from the beginning, it eliminates all arguments.
