If you don't like 'Zons, then you don't like the majority of the other teams. Hell, instead of Block I could take something else, but Block is just better.
The truth is is that most teams develop more or less along the same lines, depending on their race. Dwarves get guard/MB across the board, with a smidgin of Pile On and the occasional Stand Firm. Norse get Pile on for the Blitzers, and Gutter Runners become 1 turners or Pass Blockers.
Sure, you could say that they have different stat lines in their rosters, but Sure Feet guarantees additional movement, and Dauntless practically increases your ST.
"Think outside the box" if you want variety.

Well, I'm playing them in the REBBL Challenge, due to the fact I'd never played against them, nor had anyone I knew ever played them.Balrog wrote:I just find Amazons very "blah!" for lack of a better word. Plus I have a hard time figuring out why a guy would ever want to play them, I compare it to the kid who played with Barbies instead of G.I. Joes... it's just wrong.

Maybe they won't be all different, but I'm enjoying playing them (and they're not developed, it's only their 2nd game and I've only got one skill so far.)

Me too, but i'd still rather play with plastic women than plastic men. Wouldn't you?Balrog wrote:Really!? Personally I prefer the real thing. ;-)Zombie wrote:Maybe for little boys, it's more normal to play with little platic men than plastic women, but for grown men, it's the other way around!

Doesn't matter to me.
It's plastic and I'm secure in myself enough that I'm not afraid someone might think less of me because my plastic bits have a masculine shape instead of female.
They aren't sexual to me so it really doesn't matter if they are male, female or otherwise. I'm not aroused by plastic toys or drawings.

I'm trying out an Amazon team at the moment out of interest. i've been most other teams in my BB career so I thought I'd give them a go.
I've only played one game but already i'm not convinced, personally I prefer teams with a little more variety on the statline.
What is the history of the team? I missed them being introduced to the game but they seem a little bit lazy in design. Take one human lineman, knock off an armour, add block and clone.

The short answer is "no", but it is a qualified "no" because there are odd ways of interpreting the question which could justify the answer "yes".

I have to agree. The team designs from Fanatic have decreased in quality from almost the beginning. Not sure which came first Lizzies or Norse, but those are are so-so designs, Norse probably being the better of the two, and after that it's just been completely crap and getting worse.
I really am not anxious for this elf team at all. I can bet all it will do is cause screams.

Okay, a few people said I should try thinking outside the box and that other teams are as obvious in skill picks as this team, but I have to disagree. My teams have always been different (or at least flavorfull and amusing). My Dwarves have a strong throwing game between my +1MA blitzers and my way to many passing skills runners. My skaven aren't all that revilutionary, but I think using the Rat Ogre as a Runner/Hole Opener is at least mildly amusing (especially when your oponent thinks it will fall down from blocking and doesn't relize i have Block, Pro, and a Leader player
), My Storm Vermon are solid Guard tanks with Spikes giving them 9AV. I had a halfling team attempt to make a running game (there halflings
).
Now with Amazons I couldn't think of hardly any strategies exept to play them as elves that can't make all the "anything buy a 1" rolls, and that they wouldn't fall down much. So I ended up with a typical Amazon team. The Linewomen where: 1st:Block; 2nd:2w/Pass Block,2w/Tackle,2w/Strip Ball,2w/Dirty Player; and for there 3rd skill they got one of the other ones they didn't have; Doubles where Dauntless, Frenzy, Diving Tackle. The catchers where the same as Linewoman exept Sprint, Side Step, one had leap (big mistake), and doubles got Nerves of Steel. The Throwers are just Linewoman with passing skills. Finally, the Blitzers seemed destend for Guard, (d)Stand Firm, any other Linewoman skill. Just for the sake of making my hands type more I'll list all the posibilities I didn't take and how implosible they are to amazon teams.
Leader: um 40K rerolls
Pro: 40K rerolls
Shadowing: only 6MA (did give a linewoman this once, but she got -1ST next game so she retired- never succeded in the skill either)
Diving Catch: ehm, no
Jump Up: if they fall down they don't usually get up
Leap: did take once for cage breaking. very bad idea
sure feet: took once and only helped keep my 8 rerolls
As you can see I took almost every skill plosible over my 50 games and the whole team still felt as if they where all the same. I could make a 3-4-4 defence and place the blitzers and linewoman whereever I felt like and there was hardly a difference. On offence I tryed passing (throwers in back, punch hole for catchers but didn't even matter if i threw to catchers or not), running (throwers in back, punch hole for catchers but didn't matter if i threw to catchers or not), cage (throwers in back punch hole for catchers but didn't matter if gave ball to catchers or not). As you can see every strategy is the same with the amazons. It's like the team is so diverse and bland at the exact same time. With any other team you would get mutalated if you just picked 11 players and scatterd them across your half of the field, but amazons just stand there not falling down, dodging and ganging up.

With my amazons, i wanted to turn my catchers into defensive specialists with blodge, diving tackle, side step and tackle. Never got there because i didn't play enough games. I might play them again this summer, so we'll see how it goes. My point is that you can have a lot more variety if you give it a little thought.
The fact that you got almost no stat increase contributed a lot to finding this team boring. If you had just normal luck on those (1 in 6 roll should be a stat increase), you would have found the team much more entertaining.

yeah but a stat increase can alter almost any player's position. I think what he is saying is that the team as a whole only works one way.
Why turn your catchers into defensive specialists when you have blitzers? Who are already half way there? YOu need 4 skill upgrades for your catchers to get there and then they are really wasting catch on defense. Your blitzers only need 2 skill upgrades to be just as tough.

Sorry, but your arguement does not hold water. You are comparing a non-doubles/stat increases team with ones that have had doubles/stat increases. Of course the teams with doubles/stats will be more diverse.Quilwood wrote:(snip)My Dwarves have a strong throwing game between my +1MA blitzers (/snip)........(snip), My Storm Vermon are solid Guard tanks with Spikes giving them 9AV.(/snip)
Try making your Catchers defenders with Pass Block. Make your Passers Hail Mary Passers and give your Catchers Diving Catch. Make your Blitzers Pile On experts. Make the Linewomen Dirty Players.
Sure, the Amazons are somewhat straight foward, but most of the teams are like that.
Dwarves and Undead play an attrition game.
Lizzies play the run game.
Wood Elves revolve around their WarDancers.
Stat changes can alter that, though. Get a Catcher with +1 AGI, and OMG does it change things. Linewomen, or even Blitzers who are lucky enough to get +1 ST excel at the bruiser game, because they are always standing. Doubles can open up Dauntless for Blitzers, making them Big Guy killers, +MA for Catchers along with Sure Feet can give them break away speed.
Amazons just require more doubles/stats on skill rolls to be more diverse. From the sounds of it, you didn't get many.
