Skills for an Ogre?

Post by Agentrock »

My Ogre finally got some SSPs and received a whopping two skill rolls! One roll was 10 (non-doubles) = +1 MA (or normal skill) and the other was a 4 (on doubles).

What skills would be suggested for this guy? He plays on a (ahem) dwarf team.

I was think converting the +1 MA to the Block skill (since he is always failing blocks due to not having the skill), but I am at a loss for the doubles roll. Dodge comes to mind...

Stand firm is worth considering on the double. Protection against failed doges, keeps that ST5 in place.
I'd go with trading in the MA for Block because it IS that useful on an Ogre...but MA+1 is awfully tempting seeing as it maks him joing fastest on your team.

Yeah...Block is going to be a given I think (unless someone has a cool combo of skills to use instead in this situation). I was considering burning the doubles roll and taking Guard...he'd support the dwarves with Guard themselves making them a ST4 defensive block...

I would go for block and stand firm.

What about Block and Piling On?

With block and stand firm he should be able to make it to a 3rd skill, wait until then.

Stand Firm would combine well with Break Tackle, which would make him a very good cage stomper on a third skill. The other really good consideration might be Dodge, just to make him highly irritating for other Big Guy/Mummy types to deal with.

Block & Leader? Give him a reroll to use.

Block and Dodge?

Most hated opponent on the field...

Yeah, I'm leaning on the Block and Dodge idea right now...maybe Stand Firm for his 3rd still...

Stand firm is a trait IIRC so you might not want to blow the doubles roll. Dodge will help more on the block dice but Stand firm will prevent him EVER falling down from dodging. I would go with Block and Stand Firm. If you later give him break tackle or pro you can actually turn him into a hell of a runner. My ogre team has an ogre who is developing like this so far

Block
Break Tackle
Sure Hands

He's actually scoring touchdowns too...so it shouldn't be too long till I can give him dodge or pro.

Like Amon said Leader is also a good choice for the doubles roll.

Skummy is right. Go with Block and Stand Firm and then wait for Break Tackle. He'll be a monster blitzer.

wouldn't it be much more fun to play with if you gave him surehands and kept the +1MA

Make a runner out of him.

All big guys seem to be built up in the same general way. How about some variety. make him an ogre runner, it will also help to avoid people flaming you for having the ogre on a dwarf team.
