What has changed with the living rule book?

Post by Wanderer »

not sure how big of a question the actually is. Seems by peoples posts that the new rule (play cards aside or maybe that is what it is?) book has changed the game quite a bit.

Antone want to fill me in?

Also if you got any tips for dark elves or chaos dwarfs i am all ears

Depends on what rules you were using before. I was using the 3rd edition rules that came with the game in 2000, and quite a bit has changed since then.

However most changes deal with the skills/traits such as you can only use a skill once per turn and you don't have to declare use of a skill till AFTER a dice roll. So piling on chap rolls for armour, sees its not broken, then says right i'll pile on. That's a real bone of contention round these parts.....

To be honest, you'd be best off by down loading the LRB from gamesworkshop.com. Nothing major changed, but too many minor things to list quickly.

Hope this helps!

there doesnt seem to much of a change except a few odds and bitz. Unless i missed something i dont see why people say tactics from 3rd are not of much use in 4th or whatever version we are now in.

well some of the skills have changed, like diving tackle, frenzy and the change of some skills to traits has made it harder or impossable for some players to get certain combos

like the jump up piling on mummy, or the stand firm catchers

basic tactics still work from third edition fine, but may need some slight tweaking to take into account of the tweaks

thankfully no more frenzy blitzing beastmen who can push you off the pitch from almost any square ;]

In addition to what Grumble said, the biggest strategy changers was making a hand-off an action.

This removed a major component of several strategies from many teams that counted on the free action hand off for their bread and butter plays.

Yeah that ruined most of my human strategies (talking about the human team). They where my favorite Team and now I am too bored to work on some new moves. Rather did something new (Chaos Dwarf and Norse)

Oh yeah and there were MASSIVE changes to the way fouling works.

Both on who gets to assist, the modifiers used for the AV and INJ rolls, and the possible ejection of said fouler.

That again was a big change to game from 3rd.

Finally the removal of the MVP/Cards to go to the Handicap table and aging.

Traits, Fouling, Handoffs, and the Handicap Table/Aging ... are the 4 biggest changes I can think of to the core rules from 3rd to LRB.
