Help for a Human Team, please
Hi,
I have been asked to play in a 18 week league with Tournaments in every so often. The only problem is I am using a starting team whereas most of the other teams have a team rating of 140 or higher. I know I'll get handicap rolls but that doesnt really help me, yeah some are cool but some are just plain poo.
My starting line up is:
1x Ogre
3x Blitzers
2x Catchers
1x Thrower
4x Linemen
3x ReRolls
5x Fan Factor
What do you think of the team, do you think it can last the distance and maybe even win a Tournament. I'm not too bothered about the league as there is 2 run a year. I am hoping to finish in the top half of the table however.
The other teams in the league are:
1x Chaos Warrior
1x Amazon
2x Human (not including mine)
1x Orc
1x Dwarf
2x Wood elf
1x Skaven
1x Dark elf
1x Goblin
What do you all think?
All help/feedback will be gratefully recieved.
Thanks in advance
Jay

IMO i'd drop the Ogre and a Catcher from the starting line up and get 3 linemen and up your FF to at least 8.
Why you ask?,well your catchers will be a huge target for the opposition and with only 11 players they'll both have to be on the pitch all the time and be a risky option in defence.
The Ogre will have to be sacrificed to get your FF up and make sure you've got 12 available players.
First Purchase if poss should be an apothecary, then you can concentrate on fleshing the team out with a second catcher, your ogre, 2nd Blitzer and re-rolls.
After a few games your team should be in decent shape

I just started a TR100 league with
2 x Blitzer
2 x Catcher
1 x Thrower
5 x Lineman
1 x Ogre
3 TRR
9 FF
That worked really well for me, but I'm less sure about TR40+ differences.
Now against TR140 those teams are getting a little bit skilled so you may need to start with an apoth. If all the other teams have high FF then maybe don't bother competing - keep it low and spend the money.
I wouldn't drop the Ogre. You'll need something to compete on the LOS.

As your league doesn't seem too bashy you could go either way on the Ogre. Taking him will mean you can pound some of the weaker teams all the more effectively, but he's not a necessity just to compete.
I wouldn't bother with him, just because humans are a % team - all about the averages, very reliable and all round. Ogres are a wildcard in this mix, and I have had nothing but problems with mine. If you want a bit of spice by all means take him but I think it will lessen your chances of a win.
High FF is nice, but I'd never prioritise it over an early advantage in the league. I'm in a VAST minority here, so treat that piece of advice with caution, but I started a league with FF 3 and a kick-ass Orc team and haven't looked back! Now my FF is 8 admittedly but I still reckon if you're playing a team with cheap players like Orcs/Humans you can replace your losses quite easily and still have money to spare.

I find that when a rookie team joins an advanced league there are three general truths:
1- The rookie team needs an apothecary at the start.
2- The rookie team needs high FF.
3- The rookie team should have as much strength as possible.
The first point is rather obvious, but the second is maybe not as clear. See when playing against higher TR opponents it's a good idea to get as many advantages as possible; and with four kickoff results being based on FF then it's a good idea to stack the odds your way. Also, since you will probably lose your first few games, your FF has a higher chance to go down, so starting with a high FF will help you there. And last, you are more susceptible to lose players when facing higher TR teams.
With the three points above, here is the roster I would concider:
1x Ogre
2x Blitzer
1x Catcher
1x Thrower
6x Lineman
1x Apoth
6x FF
3x Reroll

(All comments below should be prefaced by the warning that I am completely pissed at the moment.)
I agree with Balrog, except for one caveat. If this is not a scheduled league, and you are allowed to challenge your first opponent because of your low TR, then I'd go without an Apothecary for the first game, and put the extra money into fan factor, with 10 k left to buy an Apoth later.

That's a good point. And are you "completely pissed" as in angry, or drunk?Skummy wrote:(All comments below should be prefaced by the warning that I am completely pissed at the moment.)

You started a league with only 7 players.
How many linemen did you take?
ON a side note though: I played my first game last night against the Choas Team - TR 160(something like that), with the team I started the thread with. I won 4 - 0. I also managed to cause 5 casulties thanks to my ogre including 1 dead Chaos Warrior. My opponent was fuming at that I'll tell you but I found it all quite hilarious.
The Chaos Warrior in question was his team captain (lol) and he rolled a 1 on his apoth roll (lol).
Sorry about all the lol's but I'm kinda over the moon, I thought was gonna get absolutly destroyed, and I came out with a win.
Just to let every one know, I played the bash and run game against a choas team and came out on top. lol. It doesnt happen that often does it.
