Deadlings....

Got a great idea and/or proposal for BloodBowl?

Just to provide proof for the previous statement:

Killer dwarf team which blocks always with 2-die blocks, MB and block against the deadlings

odds of knocking down the opponent: 75% per block
odds of causing a cas with MB = 365/1024 = 35.64453125%

Thus 26.7333984375% of blocks cause a casualty

So for 20 casualties you need on average approximately 80 blocks, which means 5 blocks per turn.
Which in turn is hard to achieve.

Ok, so I was exaggerating! So what!

Even at approximately 3 blocks per turn the dwarves would rack approximately 12.8 casualties in a game! And they'd probably get a few 3-die blocks too, which makes things easier.

The point is:
The team is fun and definitely not overpowered. But their lack of dodge and agility makes them sitting ducks and casualty automats. Whichever bashing team first meets them gets a huge edge towards the others development-wise.

One suggestion to counter the ciriticism just posted would be to give the deadlings a better AV. AV7, maybe even AV8. They aren't going to be any good anyhow, but that would prevent them from being "Gain-Skills-Casualty-O-Mat"'s.

They're still Halflings, just witha twist. They should be "Gain-Skills-Casualty-O-Mat"'s. They shouldn't get better AV except for the Mummified ones (that's a neat idea). Make them rock hard if you want. Just keep them slow and weak. They should all still get the stunty +1 to injury roll, too.

On the ideas of freebooters, I don't think Luthor or Ramtut would play on this team, even if they are all undead.

Slightly modified team list here, imagine Deadling v2 :)

Code: Select all

Qty Position Mv St Ag Av Skills & Traits Cost Skills
0-16 Deadling 5 2 2 6 Right Stuff, Stunty 30,000 Gen
                                 Regenerate
0-2 Mummified 3 3 1 7 Mighty Blow, Regenerate 40,000 Gen, Str
       Deadling Stunty

Re-Rolls: 70,000

Big Guy: Dead Wood
Qty Position Mv St Ag Av Skills & Traits Cost Skills
0-2 Dead Wood 2 5 1 10 TTM, Really Stupid, 100,000 Gen, Str
                                 Stand Firm, Regenerate
                                 Mighty Blow

Example team... The Blackberry Nightshades

2 Dead Wood
2 Mummified Deadlings
10 Deadlings
7 Fan Factor
5 Re-Rolls
Neither the count, nor Ramtut can be freebooted for the team :)

It's a fun team, not a competitive team however :)

But the problem remains that they lack two essential things that the halflings have and which makes halflings a lot less prone to casualties:

namely AG3 and dodge!

Without tackle halflings succeed in dodging 8/9 times! The deadlings in turn succeed only 1/2. Team rerolls can enhance that a bit but only once a turn.
What does this mean: deadlings can't dodge away, or if they try, they are likely to fail early on, leaving many of their players into positions where they can be blocked on the opponents next turn.

Also, against non-tackle opponents the halflings have a lot better chance of staying upright.

I'm definitely opposed to the idea of a team that gives the opponent loads of easy casualties and touchdowns. And no, I do not consider halflings and goblins to be in that category. AG3, dodge and TTM go a long way of making them good enough.

If the deadlings would get higher AV they'd still be easy to push around, but they'd seem a bit more like deadlings - rising up to take another blow instead of fallings to pieces every time they're hit.

At least AV7 for the deadlings, maybe even AV8. Then I'd allow them to my league. Even with AV8 they're going to be bashed around pretty good.

i speak from experience.... in the lpl i'm playing a very weak chaos hlfling experimental roster... 5236 guard, stunty. i wanted to try a roster that would be competitive against other regular halfling teams rather than one that was more on-par with gobbos, if not slightly better... and i'm getting trounced like i've never seen before...

not only does not having dodge mean a lot more casualties because of that added 1-in-6 knockdown, but i've been falling over a hell of a lot just getting off the line... and with that low av, falling is fatal...

sure, these guys will have regen to help a little, but they'll still suffer the same 4-5 casulaties a game that my current team is suffering...

just for reference, i'm adding dodge and av7 to these guys next season just to make them a legitimate crap team instead of a total waste of time...

Phil, just out of curiosity, how many interested players do you need to start making models?

These could really make great, fun minis, also for use with a regular Halfling team (they're crap dead or alive anyway; crap is crap, I'm not going to look closely to see the difference)

realistically, between 30 and 40 bb teams worth of minis needs to be seriously spoken-for before it becomes feasable...

Set up a poll to find out how many would be interested at least it'd give Phil some indication of what demand to expect,

and if that doesn't generate enough interest maybe we can move on to Slann

Count me in for the Slann interest MCDeath ... I would buy a whole team (and a few more to make a reasonable Lustria Pact Team)

We could of course, by the way, get this team more in line with the new undead team and get Halfling Flesh Golems and Werepoodles...

A Halfling sized Golem should look great! :D

Back onto more serious matters, I don't think starting such a pool will be useful unfortunately. I don't expect 40 enthusiasts would react to it...

I personally like the inability to dodge around caused by the lack of dodge, and just to have a different kind of a stunty team would rather have them without dodge and with a higher AV. That should control the amount of injuries.

yeah, but it just doesn't "feel" right without it... little guys should just have a habbit of getting out of the way... if you can't see them dashing between people's legs and ducking under awkward falling blocks, then they're just not stunties...
