New High Elf Team

New High Elf Team
I consider creating a High Elf for the fumbbl online league. I prefer a highly aggressive playing style, especially on defense. Any suggestions for a proper starting line-up? I' consider the following starting-rosters:
Roster 1:
10 Lineelves: 700k
1 Dragon Warrior: 100k
FF 9: 90k
RR 2: 100k
Roster 2:
9 Lineelves: 630k
2 Dragon Warriors: 200k
FF 7: 70k
RR 2: 100k
Any comments, suggestions?
Should the starting roster include Phoenix or Lion Warriors perhaps?
I'd really like to start with FF 9.

FF 9 is really hard to start with on an elven team, without going mostly line elves (as you suggest)
My favorite starting roster (and the one I use) is:
2 Dragon Warriors
1 Phoenix Warrior
8 Line elves
2 Re-rolls
FF 6
This is fairly "agressive" as you start with both blitzers, who quickly develop SPP due to scoring. IMHO its the best way to start High Elves.
But an interesting one if you wanted 9 FF could be:
4 Lion Warriors
1 Phoenix Warrior
6 Line elves
1 Re-roll
FF 9
One re-roll isnt too great, but with 5 positional players, you should be able to survive. And in FUMBBL you should be able to avoid playing a bashy team in your first game, and so be able to buy an apothecary.

I've usually used a lineup of FF8,RR3,11 line-elves.
First purchases
-apoth
-2x catchers
Works fine, although it lacks skills. Gives you a chance of concentrating on developing the line-elves while you gather money for the position players.

I started my present league team as follows:

I has worked well for me. On offense the DWs help blitz a hole in the defense so you can run some receivers down field, and the PW gives improved passing abilities. On defense, the DWs are valuable linebackers. I'd love to have more RR and FF, but with expensive players, 2RR and 6FF has been okay.
My first purchase was an apothecary, my second was a Lion Warrior.

I started a roster like the first one you mentioned on Fumbbl and it blew pretty big time for me. Lost my first 3 games and the 4th game was bad enough I retired the team.
I then used this set up:

Apoth after first game, then Phoenix warrior, and then finally the Dragon Warriors.
So far in 11 games, I have 6 wins, 4 ties, and 1 loss averaging a little over 3 TD's a game and that's playing against as wide a variety of races as I can in the open league.

I'm thinking about starting a HE team in the next phase of my local league, and this is the team I'm going to field:
2 Dragon Warriors 200k
9 Line Elves 630k

Total - 1000'000
It's risky because of only 1 re-roll and no skill re-rolls, but I figure I'd rather rely on my AG and have 2 blitzers (who will do most of the work on defence) in my starting team. You could trade in the apoth for a re-roll, but again I think the chance to save an expensive player from your very first match outweighs this.

For a starting line up, I'd take a RR over an apoth since RR will double in cost and an apoth will not. I don't think it is too risky. Then your first purchase is an apoth. Even if you loose a player in the first game, HE can survive with 10 players with their speed and agility. Besides, after you start your team, RR will cost more than any of your players (except equal to a DW's cost) to replace.

But I'd say that after Elf teams start slow and then go through a rapid acceleration because even their linemen are capable of scoring/passing for SPPs and then they add their excellent position players later. This means that the dangerous time is the first couple of games when you may not be able to survive if you lose a Dragon Warrior because while your offence is OK you've got no-one who can chase down gutter runners or bust into cages.
Re-rolls are nice, but if you will play an AG team you have to make trade-offs somewhere. If you must have 2 re-rolls, drop a line-elf and give yourself an extra re-roll and +2 FF but you'll have to prove you can play with 10 players!

This is how I started my Cordials and I have to say, it worked out pretty well initially. Just think of the Lion Warriors as rookie WDs (same stats, at least) and it suddenly it may look a bit more appealing to a Woodie coach.Gertwise wrote:2 Lion Warriors

the thing is tr100 elves don't NEED a lot of positional players. they can compete just fine with a blitzer and line elves. i like the original roster. 1dragon, 10line, 2rr, 9ff, and 10k towards the apoth. 
it's the best team for the long term. and as i've said numerous times in the past about elf teams, resist the urge to start with a thrower. you want to use your line elves as throwers to spread completions around, that way whoever gets the mvp is likely to get a skill. then once you have a more developed set of line elves (and other position players too) get a thrower, and the whole team will be much better.

Agreed. You're not likely to be playing the long ball much when you start - hand-off, run, quick pass is the way to go so a thrower is a pointless waste of money. Bring him in later when the opposing lines are getting tougher and you have more catcher types.
