Passing!

Post by Shift81 »

I'm working on getting some blood bowl players together in my area for a league. In said league, I have plans to play a team based almost solely around passing the ball.

My question is, what team is suited best to a passing game? Obviously, the elven teams stand out, but are there any others that would work? Something a bit unconventional perhaps? Any ideas/team configurations would be GREATLY appreciated. :D

Mostly all that can count on a catcher, i guess ..

Humans make great passing game, but elves are perfectly suited for that role. Why don't you let your coaches play 2 or 3 test matches with different races, to see how you cope with them?

Skaven. Humans can be quite good at a passing game too.

Maybe Amazons also, though they lack high Movement catchers; they do all have dodge.

None as good as the elves (HE/WE) however.

I posed the same question a while ago. Check out:

In summary, WE and HE are the top picks for a passing offense. Personally, I like HE because of AV8 players and ST3 catcher.

I reckon that the elven teams are better when experienced because of that base high AG, but a true consideration should take into account that human/skaven will be able to get the position players into the team from the word go, while it will take an elf team a minimum of 3/4 games to get a thrower and a catcher into a good squad. That has to go in favour of the cheaper teams.

I guess it depends on what you are after. If you are just looking at a season of 5 games or less and you want a passing game, then the Humans will give you some cheaper positional players on the pitch from the beginning. But, if you are interested in a longer season or multiple seasons, with a passing specific offense, then the Elves, IMO, are the best pick with AG4 and skill re-rolls for throwers and catchers.

I think High Elves are the team best suited for passing games, but its fully possible with WE, DE and Skaven.
Amazons is definetly not suited for passing game since their passer is not that good.

All I was saying is since shift81 wants a team solely based on passing he might prefer to have position players there from the start, which is not that viable on an Elf team if you want it to be good. Granted they can pass from the start due to high AG but if all you're going for is a throwing game you might as well play a customised human team because several throwers and catchers at the start will give you more varied games than a load of elf linemen.

All the help and tips are greatly appreciated. Here is what came of this. As I started designing the team, the concept changed a bit. I was originally planning on 4 catchers and 2 throwers, but it changed after a practice game or two. Here is what I settled on, let me know what you think!

1 Thrower
2 Catchers
4 Blitzers
5 Linemen
2 Rerolls
8 Fan Factor

I would have liked to take more rerolls, but I wanted to have a 12 man roster. So far this has done quite well in practice games, as it suits my style of play very well. The team is versatile; they fulfill my passing needs quite well but with 4 blitzers they are quite able to run the ball and bash a little too!

Opinions welcome. :D

If it's a long term league, I would not hesitate to trade in the extra lineman for a reroll.

Well I'm thinking of also using them in the FUMBBL Open Division (if I can figure it out fully). So you think the extra re-roll is preferable to an extra lineman....hrm...I can see pro's and con's on both side.

Ahh! The agony of indecision!

I'd rate either the extra reroll or the apothecary as better than the extra lineman. The reroll gives you 3, which is the break point for an effective team in my opinion. It also saves you money in the long run.

The Apoth would lower the odds that one of your key players gets killed in the first game. I'd rather risk playing short because of a badly hurt or KO than suffer permenant injury in the first game or two.

Awww...Skummy now you throw another variable into the equation. I do see your point however. I think I'll spring for the extra reroll. Then I'll have an Apothecary high up on my list of purchases after the first game.
