Need SERIOUS help vs Undead team

Post by Mortalman »

Hi,

We don't show each other our rosters but here's what I'm pretty sure he has.

Undead team:

1. Mummy - Block, Piling On, MB, Regen
2. Mummy - S6, Block, Piling On, MB Regen
3. Wight - Block, Tackle
4. Wight - M7, AG 4, Dodge, Block.
5. Ghoul - ?
6. Ghoul - sure hands, Block, Dodge.
7. Ghoul - Block, Dodge
8. Ghoul - ?
+ the obligatory 8 skeletons/Zombies who have pretty much nothing.

I'm sure you can see the player I'm worried about! I play an Orc team with a rating around 200, but I'm missing my Ogre for the next match due to SI and my team isn't really a murder team so I'm scared he'll batter me into the ground and I'll walk out with a 2-0 victory at the expense of all my players (pretty much what happened last time!). Help!

OK, some small advice:

Feed the mummies with your niggled or unskilled lineorcs and BOBs, and try "leading" them in the wrong direction. Foul them with one of those if you get a chance. Keep your good players out of reach. You might want to field more expendable ones than you have to when he's on the offence.

All your tackle players will be needed against those dodgers. You could try ghoul-hunting with them, and use your blitzes in particularly the first half to get 2D blocks against that AV7.

On offense, I'd go for the side, and be sure to distract the mummies. Then take every opportunity to push out his players from the field. There are often "chains" of blocks that can push one of those dodgers into your crowd and then out.

Hope that could help out a bit.

Micke

Sorry, but that's the most unsportsmanship house rule I ever heard. Do you show your rosters before the match begins or do you have to guess while playing?

The way we play it people pretty much have to guess. We'll tell a rookie what skills players start with and stuff, but not what advances they've gained. This is not entirely satisfactory I know, and would you believe this is a store league set up by GW staff at my local store? I always played that while I wouldn't hand over my roster at the start of the match I'd tell them what a player had if they asked me. Unfortunately I found that my opponents made me choose which blocking dice result I was using in a "blocking player chooses" before they'd tell me whether their player had block/dodge/sidestep whatever. The explanation was "well players don't advertise what skills they've got - you have to learn". Now I play this way too, as there's no way I'm showing them mine if they don't show me theirs! :pissed:

Good question. Basically I think the guys who more or less run the league assume that because we all know each other no-one will cheat. That's GW staff for you.

I suppose it partly depends on what kind of atmosphere you game in. I mean I can't see the point in cheating to win a game of bloodbowl - I'm not that competitive and I think it de-values victory. I don't mind the sort of "illegal procedure cheating" like sneaking a 12th man onto the field to see if your opponent notices, although I have never done this because people DO tend to notice. We all witness each other's advance and aging rolls and so on, but otherwise it's a case of remembering what the dangerous players on an enemy team are.

Thanks for the offer, but my gaming club is 10 minutes walk from my house which suites me pretty well. Unless you have a depot in the heart of Kingston I doubt I'd be tempted to trade up, if only because of the travel arrangements!

But enough of this! How am I going to avoid getting pounded by that Mummy?!

It's been my experience that the rule is there so the GW staff can cheat.

In our league we don't show each other our rosters before the game. But durring the game you are more then welcome to have a look to avoid cheating and confirm skills. Sometimes coaches like to suprise you with their skill selection on some of their players.

To be honest I don't have too much of a problem with the not showing rosters before the game, as our league is small and well all know each other so I pretty much trust everyone. On the other hand it's pretty unfair on new players coming in, because they aren't used to playing that way and get really flustered when you suddenly announce "two-dice I choose block cos he's got S4!" as they block your runner!

Not showing rosters before games really isnt cool. I hate it. Especially when players with guard are involved. I am tempted to drop out of the local GW league, as they not only play that you dont have to show rosters, but they also give SPP for fouling.
