Hidden deployment!

Post by WildAnimal »

I have seen Blood bowl played with hidden deployment, simple put a screen in the middle, both players deploy 10 players and keep the last in the hand, then the screen is lifted and the kicking team deploy the last player then the receiving.

Actually this give very funny matches, try it! and it actually makes the first round less blocking.

And some of the results on the Kick-off table gives more reason, like that one where the kicking team may re-deploy or the receaving team gets to move each player 1 step.

Think about it!

I prefer the open set up.

...maybe because I like the similarities to football.

Open set up rules, i prefer it when your conscious decisions actually have some effect on the game, rather than pure luck.

Like on a previous post if you want to do this then go play battleships

I think this might be interesting to try. It would add a thinking aspect to the game. Set-up would be more than just a reaction to what your opponent does. I think I will try this in some one-off games.

The problem for me lies in the fact that the mandatory 3-block first turns are a very important team balancing mechanism. It ensures that a reasonable in-game probability exists that players get injured or killed. Just to avoid the situation where we have to make aging even harsher because no-one gets killed in action.
And besides, just putting your players in some order without it being a reaction to what the other does or being an attempt to cause a certain reaction from the opponent is really boring. This eliminates important tactics from the game.

It may remove some tactics from the game, but it would others. It would probably affect teams that have flexibility more than the predictable ones. Humans could utilize it more than dwarves.

Well i play the game for a combination of skill and fun, and also to reflect how sport is played on the field, I've yet to see a sportgame where players position themselves invisibly on the field so the opposition cant see them, then voila they magically appear as if from nowhere. To be honest that scenario would completely spoil the game for me. There are other boardgames i could play if i wanted that scenario.

The game is based in strategy. Adding this would be going away from that and more towards luck. No thanks this is not for me.

I plan to use it in the finals of a tournement (probably the chaos cup  ). It should be a fun change, but not somehing to do every game. The tactics will be _different_, not nescarily reduced. I fear playing one of my friends who is VERY good at anticipating me under these rules.

Surely it qould just mean all set ups are the same!

Niether of you know how the other set up so you are thus forced to spread your strength equally along the line of scrimmage!
