On Chaos Gods and other mutterings..

Post by Norse »

As most of you know, I'm a player of many GW games, and have often felt that BB, while the most fun, lacked some of the story of other games...

Then I thought about Marks of Chaos, and how theming a Chaos team to one god would be good fun. I don't mean having daemons and such, oh god no, just allowing players to buy marks of their gods for a certain price.

What do other guys think? There would be no need to release new models as colour scheme alone would dictate which god you followed, so maybe these might even be potentail new rules one day.. Galak, could you help with the costs of each skill please, but here's my thoughts:

A team may only ever have one mark of chaos present, as the fickle chaos gods do not allow their followers to mix. Any number of members of a team may have a mark at the signified cost:

Khorne - Khornate followers revel in slaughter and start with FRENZY

Nurgle - Pestilence makes them nearly immune to pain, +1 AV

Slaanesh - Perverted and Sadistic, Slaaneshi followers have DIRTY PLAYER

Tzeentch - Actually, I can't think of one, any ideas??

As I said, I'm going for theme more than balance, plus Galak would need to help with costs.. Whaddya think?

Yikes 4 Chaos Warriors with Frenzy?! That might hurt a bit!

Maybe you could do something like this:

You may pick one Chaos Warrior on your team to be a Champion. The Champion may purchase a mutation for 20K (?) when he is added to the team. You may only have one champion per team, see the list below for skill choices:

Khorne: Razor Sharp Fangs
Nurgle: Foul Appearance
Tzeentch: Two Heads
Slaanesh: Claw

Or something like that... Just an idea!

Khorne - Frenzy
Nurgle - Foul Appearance
Slaanesh - Hypnotic Gaze
Tzeentch - Pro

Would be my choices...

Incidentally - a guy in my league has some beautifully converted Nurgle Humans (played as normal humans).
If someone wanted to play a Chaos Marauder team, using the current chaos rules, but changing "Horns" to "Berserk" or "Kamikaze" (as opposed to "frenzy"), using the same rules, I thik that would be a simple and neat way of bringing in cultist teams.....

I'm playing with a Nurgle dedicated team currently.

4 Plaguebearers instead of Chaos Warriors.
4 Nurglings ( Basically Snotlings with Foul appearance )
and the rest of the roster made up from the Human lineman stats but all have foul appearance.

It's easy to build a "Chaos theme" team without any new rules. Just use all your doubles rolls on appropriate traits! :)

Hmm. If you want to differentiate the Warriors, try this:

* Khorne: AV 10, 110K
* Nurgle: Foul Appearance, 110K
* Slaanesh: Hypnotic Gaze, 110K
* Tzeentch: ???

Good idea to spice up the chaos teams a bit. I have never realy taken to having beastmen form the basis of a chaos team and as such I feel the chaos marauders are a better representaion of a chaos team.

not too sure about the actual skill changes for chaos warriors in the current chaos teams. Khorne would obviously have to be strength based... maybe mighty blow or frenzy (this seems to suit them most), Nurgle must be foul appearance or maybe a random mutation is better or even regeneration, Tzeentch would be random mutation or hypnotic ability, and finaly Slannesh would need something nasty and sadistic like dirty player or piling on.

my rules for Marks of Chaos:

Khorne: +1 Armour and Frenzy
Nurgle: Foul Appearance and Regeneration
Slaanesh: Dauntless and Nerves of Steel

Tzeentch marks are different (cumulative effects):

1 player: 1 additional Magic Item (allowed to have 2 instead of 1)
2 players: wizard can cast two spells per game
3 players: Wizards at half price (rounding down)
4 players: each player starts with random ability.

Reminds me somewhat of the 2nd Ed. Chaos Mutant table. We used to do the same thing with the themed Chaos teams. We would make our roll on a modified table taken from the "Marks of Chaos" table in the "Slaves to Darkness" and the "Lost and the Damned" books. The table was modified to reflect the values in the "Blood Bowl Companion" (I believe, or is it the Star Player handbook).

Guys would REALLY get creative with their chaos teams after that.

We used at one point the following chaos team:

0-4 Chaos warriors
0-6 Beastmen
0-12 Thugs 6 3 3 8 - Gen,St

The thugs would explain why there were so many star players available that were not exactly warriors, but definitely weren't beastmen either.
Special rule for thugs: If they roll a '7' on the SP roll table, they'd get a random mutation :)
