It's been an auto-knockdown for both players at least since 1995.
has it been in the actual official rulebooks for that entire time?

Ok this came up in fumbbl chat:

What happens if you can't set any players up, ie all knocked out and injured and your are receiving and its a touchback?

You have no players to give the ball to!

So well what happens ;]

I guess you can then select a square to give it to. Not that it will matter anyway!

Bounce or not, however you like it best.

Like i said, it doesn't make any difference. It will be just as easy for the other team to score no matter where the ball is placed. All they'll have to do is one pick up roll.

The one time it came up for me, there were players on the pitch, but they were all down (morleys revenge card/3rd). We decided that it would just be a throw-in by the crowd. Seemed reasonable.

How about a clarification for stunties and passing?

For example, can stunty players use Dump-Off, since their quick passes are treated like short passes?

Also, in a blizzard can stunty players throw short distant passes (even though they are treated like long passes)?

My apologies if this is a "lame" question.

Darthnoir u could still do those passes but u would have the penalties associated with the longer passes. The stunty rule does not change when/where u can pass, just what u need to make them.

strong arm always has and always will decrease range not increase range

so you can't throw a short pass at long pass range

if your not allowed long passes a short pass with strong arm still doesn't allow you to throw a long pass

Way to clarify that, now it makes perfect sense. What I think he means is: Strong Arm won't make him throw any farther, but it will make him throw at his regular ranges better.

On my KO I can only field 3 (or less) players, who have to be on the LOS. therefore I've no-one to kick off. Is it an automatic Touchback?

I'm sure the answer is yes, but it's not specifically noted in the Kick-off rules.
