Nice argumentation, but maybe you want to reconsider this statement again :)
He said, that his League got more balanced, which implies that is wasn't that balanced before. So the rule with Block as a general skill was bad, wasn't it like this ?

And just to add some ammo (and I do not know Relborn personally) I second his opinion with league experience from more than three years. In these years still woodelves played in the finals, even winning the championship.
At the moment we have two different leagues, one with modified LRB 2.0 one with completely rewritten 3rd-ed.-like rules which treat Block as as strength skill. The latter includes much more non-bashing teams, the first one rather contains Orcs, Undead, Dwarves (even though humans played by Sputnik won the ch.ship).

I will never agree with a statement like this. You, though, seem to feel strongly that no one should ever have a problem/be offended/insert tree-hugging hippie sentiment here, as you've said this on several occasions before. It's simply not true. You may really want it to be, maybe I do too, but it's not.

One league somewhere having a problem with a rule does not make it bad. It never has and it never will.

With my posting style, do you really believe that i "strongly feel that no one should ever be offended"? Some people here would be quick to say that i'd be the first and most probable person to offend anyone...

If a single league has a problem with a rule in that the coaches don't like it, that's certainly not enough grounds to warrant changing it, i agree with that. But if a rule completely unbalances a single league that has no house rule to provoke this, then that means the rules are abusable, and should be adjusted accordingly.

Annotation:

Relborn does not say by which rules his league is playing. It wouldn't surprise me if his league still was based on 3rd edition (which my particular league is based on as well *sigh*), since the LRB is only available in English.

I think that has more to do with your ineptitude at dealing with people who disagree with you, rather than with the "I don't care if people like me" attitude you try to front.

Ask Galak about that. He's supposed to be my nemesis or something, right? Ask him whether he truly believes that i have problems with people who don't agree with me. Let's see what his answer will be.

I don't care what people think of me or my attitude, as long as it doesn't affect what they think of my ideas about the game. Attack the person, fine. But don't let the ideas be discarded because of who carries them. Be impartial. I don't matter (as others don't matter much to me either), but my ideas (and yours) do.

I have talked to galak about you. And I have seen you post that you will admit when you are wrong.

That has nothing to do with your ability to deal with those with whom you disagree. I was talking about your lack of patience with people who don't speak english as well as you, or your total inability to be polite to people you arbitrarily view as inferior.

Wow, i must be important to you then!

Pet peeve really. I find people who speak French with an accent to be sexy, while people who speak English with an accent just seem lazy and inconsiderate (it's such an easy language to learn really, much easier than French, Spanish or German). Maybe i would have no problem with people who don't speak English well if it were my first language, seeing as that's the case with French.
Dark Lord wrote:or your total inability to be polite to people you arbitrarily view as inferior.
The first half of that sentence is correct. The second half is totally absurd. I don't view other posters here as inferior, superior or otherwise. Heck, i don't even notice who's posting what most of the time. The only people here whose name make any difference at all to me when reading their posts are Galak, Pariah, Toby and Bevan, because of the different way they think and approach problems. The others, Grumbledook, Trav, Phil, etc, are just lost in the crowd. That's not because they're not interesting. It's because unlike you (and many others to be sure), i concentrate on ideas, not the people who put them forward.

I'm the kind of guy who plays Heroes of Might and Magic with a calculator by his side, and doesn't play campaigns because he finds role playing boring. I'm the accountant type. A lot of people (i know Pariah has a lot of problem with this) find such a personality hard to fathom. However, you'd understand more where i'm coming from, and probably (just like me) put more emphasis on my ideas and less on me, if you could grasp my personality better, and understand that i'm not trying to piss people off, but only to get to the bottom of things, all things, all the time, directly and without compromise.

You are not any kind of enigma to me. I just think you are rude. Separating ideas from the person posting is not your strong point either. I have watched you contradict yourself just to debate Pariah. You may think you can do it but I assure you, you can't.
And so you have a pet peeve? Big deal. Doesn't excuse rude behavior.
Say what you will, there is no excuse for the type of rude behavior I have seen you exhibit on this page.
Snots may not have been talking about your attitude but that's what I was explaining to you. It has nothing to do with what you say. It's how you say it. You very definitely don't care who you offend...but that is not proper netiquette.

Yeah, i know that Pariah has accused me a few times of contradicting myself, but it was never actually the case. Find one instance where he accused me of contradicting myself and he was right (and i didn't admit it right after he pointed it out), and i'll call you god for a day. But you can't find that because it doesn't exist.

Erm... We are supposed to discuss about the block skill, aren't we?
Well, my opinion is that block is fine in its actual incarnation. I mean, no matter how hard we try, we'll never succeed in making all of the diverse skill equal in power balance. There will always be some skills which will be better than others. However, I wouldn't mind if a "counterblock" skill appeared (just as we have tackle to counter dodge). It would be really fun:
"Niah, Niah, I've got Block on my linemen, your norsemen are crap now!"
"Oh good, I just chose counterblock for them. Who laughes now?"

What came to my mind the other day is that there is no actual stand-off result (only if both involved players have block). What would happen if one of the 2 Pushbacks would be substituted by a "nothing happens" result? I'm just curious, don't mistake this for a serious proposal.

I've been reading posts by you for 2+ years now. No, I don't believe you feel that way. You have gotten indignant when you were offended though. Maybe you feel that you are the only person who shouldn't be offended. Don't feel bad, though. 90% of the rest of the population now thinks it's a right they have. It's not.

Zombie wrote:Attack the person, fine. But don't let the ideas be discarded because of who carries them.
You don't ever attack the person. It reduces your credibility and makes you look petty and like you're headhunting. It's always much better to offer assistance or correction. Often times, you can do so while redirecting the discussion in a way that's more conducive to your ideas. It's manipulation, sure, but the average reader/listener will be more inclined to follow what you're saying and won't focus on the injection of your thoughts.

This is a real problem. You value the ideas more than the person. Delivery and presentation are both large portions of any idea. If you're rude and disrespectful, you're going to have a hard time finding someone who's going to even listen to you long enough to get an understanding of your idea.

You're a pretty smart guy. I know that. You'd be dangerous if you would learn how to deal with people. You claim to be a scientist. That may be true. I don't know what kind you are, but, if you're going to be defending your ideas in order to receive grant money, I have a feeling you're going to be a hungry, unfunded, and struggling.

And, back on subject, an anti-block, similar to Tackle/Dodge, would be a good addition to the skills list.

I still like Galak's Juggernaut as a Strength Trait minus the ST5 limitation. The Trait part is important...so you don't see entire teams of it.

Anything I say is totally opinion and (knowing my luck) probably completely wrong. Keep this in mind.
