basic rule question

Post by goatee »

hi there!
I'm pretty new to the game, played it about 3 times and wanted to make sure if I got this right:
scenario 1: Opponent got the ball I block him he fells, ball fumbles to another of his players, he catches - no turnover
scenario 2: same 1, but ball fumbles to one of my own players who can't catch it goes an hits the ground - no turnover
am I right?

First of all:

Turnover can only happen to the active team (=the team which is moving at that moment), never the passive team.

Don't call it fumble (fumble = whenever the result is a 1 when trying to pass), call it bounce (=whenever someone loses the ball/fails to pick it up, the ball scatters one square)

To your questions: No, it's not a turnover in both cases. Why?

Turnover happens when:
You try to pick up the ball and fail (regardless where the ball ends)
You make a pass and it fumbles (regardless where the ball ends)
You make a pass and it's not caught by someone of your own team (so if you pass, it fails, bounces on a square with one of your players and he caughts it, its NOT a turnover)
One of the moving teams players is knocked over or falls over
An illegal procedure is called against you.

Not succeeding in catching a bouncing ball is never a turnover.

P.S: if someone holding the ball is knocked/falls over, the ball bounces from the field where the player ends at the end of the block/dodge
