Catching the bouncing ball...

Post by Rustycan »

Does a player have to catch a bouncing ball that scatters into his square, or can he choose not to and have it scatter again??

the rule book says you have to try and catch it, so yes you can't choose to just fail it

You can always use a TRR to try to fail the catch (or catch skill or pro)

Since a Hand Off became an action I have seen this happen twice :D - Usually when the player blitzing the ball accidently catches it - in the old days you could simply hand it off, but now its an action it usually means the guy is surrounded by the opponent's (none-to-happy!) cage!

:D

Never before have I heard

"Oh no - I rolled a six!!!"

But a player that are pushed back into a square where the ball lies cant attempt to pick it up.

Cant one say that a version of that apply to that "the blitzer catches the ball", hmm, but maybe not... one cant really say that he goes "into the square with the ball" 'uncontrollably'.

nvm

Failing to catch a bouncing ball isn't a turnover. It's the only case you can drop the ball and continue your turn.

We houseruled it that you didn't have to try to catch it but it was a turnover if you tried and failed.Made it a bit more interesting.

I actually like that quite a bit.

As long as your league realizes that when the ball is kicked right to you at the beginning of a game, it wouldn't be a turnover becasue your turn has not started yet...
