Vampire Team-after 3 seasons

Post by deadshane »

Here's my team I've been running for the last three seasons of a local tabletop league. We're finishing up in the playoffs (which I've already locked into with this seasons record of 5 wins and 2 draws) so I'll prolly get 2-3 more games in. (three if I make the bloodbowl)

I'm going to run this team for at least one more season before retirement to another race, so any suggestions for what the team is lacking are appreciated.

DOWNTOWN VAMPIYAZ

1. M.C. Munny (vampire)-Hypnogaze, Regen, Bloodlust, Block, Dodge, MB, Tackle (60spp)
2. Straight Diddy (vampire)-Hypnogaze, Regen, Bloodlust, Block, Dodge, +ag, Leap (56spp's)
3. Baby 2 Fly (vampire)-Hypnogaze, Regen, Bloodlust, Block, Dodge, MB, -Mv (40spp's)
4. Notorius B.A.T. (vampire)-Hypnogaze, Regen, Bloodlust, Block, Dodge (19spp's)
5. Old Dirty Bloodsucker/O.D.B (vampire)-Hypnogaze, Regen, Bloodlust, Dodge (13spp's)
6. Booger (Thrall) rookie
7. Test (Thrall) rookie
8. Meat (Thrall)-Block, Frenzy (18spp's) for gaze-surfing
9. Garth (Thrall)-Dirty Player (6spp's)
10. Wilbur (Thrall) rookie
11. Skank (Thrall) Kick, Leader (16spp's)
12. Blood Puppy (Thrall) Dirty Player, Sneaky Git, -Mv (16spp's)
13. Stretch (Thrall) Block, 1xNiggle (13spp's)
14. Charlie (Thrall) rookie
15. Crackerz (Thrall) Block (6spp's)
16. Snooky (Thrall) Block, +Str (16spp's)

6-Team Rerolls
11-Fan Factor
3-Assistant Coaches To deny opponent's RR's
3-Cheerleaders To deny opponent's RR's
1-Apothacary
100,000 in team treasury

TV-2,200,000

I play this team totally defensive/reactionary running a 3/4/4 defense with Snooky, Crackerz, and Stretch on the line of scrimmage. I've got no problems with defense, so far all season I've only allowed 4 TD's against me.

I'm considering a 6th vampire after next games winnings...but I'm also considering keeping the money to use on inducements to make sure that I win in the seasons playoff's/finals.

6 RR's and a Leader ensure that I've got Bloodlust under control....there are those times though when there's nothing you can do of course. (3 failed BL's on a crucial turn two games ago...kept me from a 3rd TD)

My Frenzied Thrall is Hilarious. When people try to guard with two guys in the wings, my AG5 will run up into both their tackle zones, gaze one, then the thrall will blitz using the vamp as an assist for an easy episode of crowd-surfing. :orc:

I've seen people say that LEAP on a vampire, even an agility 5 one, is a waste when you have access to Hypnogaze. I completely beg to differ. Imagine a player with agility 5 and dodge. Logic alone says that LEAP is hugely useful. I would NEVER take that skill back for something other than LEAP. Noone is able to dictate where this vampire goes...ever...unless you knock him out.

Surely you wouldn't prefer my elves....or god forbid my destructive chaos team! (Gorehoof has been itching to return to the pitch)

How about some wrestle on your rookie Thralls? Then they could lay down those nasty dwarves and norse and your dirty players can step right in...

Now this is how I was hoping my Vampire team would look like when I started the league I'm currently playing in. So far I'm 6 losses for 6 games, and my vamps can do nothing but push people. The last game i played was against an amazon team and with 4 vampires on the pitch I only managed to cause 1 casualty....by a thrall. Apart from the MVP those were the only SPP's i was able to collect that game.

Apart from what you've put above, any tips???? (particularly on how to set up)

Only that I started the team with 6RR's.

Starting team was like 6RR's some FF, an apoth, 11 thralls and a single Vamp. 6RR's helped the thralls get by.

Learn to play defense. Vampire teams live off of it. Use your tackle zones. When the ball gets lose...put tackle zones on it if you arent confident about picking it up.

Like I said, I run a 3-4-4 defense ALL THE TIME. It doesnt matter WHAT team I'm playing against.

-x--lx-----xl--x-

----l-------l----
-x--lx-----xl--x-

This defense is one of the strongest you'll see. Note that there are tackle zones EVERYWHERE except down the middle. If you force fast passing teams or skaven down the middle your entire team can converge on them and stop the run/drive. Effectively its a trap. This is a FANTASTIC starting point for Vamps. It prevents and effective first turn drive and keeps all teams back out of your half...unless they risk the "Trap". Against slower teams like dwarves or even orks I may take the third row and move it up one or two rows. They're generally not going to penetrate that deep. If a foolish bashy team decides to bust up your LOS and enter the trap with a cage...thats cool...Cages are no defense against vampires and there isnt much room in the middle to create more obstacles between the ball carrier and your players if he forms a cage there.

This defensive set-up isnt exclusive to Vamps BTW...its good for ANY team in BB.

The only change I make is if frenzy is present on the opposing team.

----lx--x--xl----
----l-------l----
--x-lx-----xl-x--
-x--l-------l--x-
----l-------l----
----lx-----xl----

That's a start, since defense is everything to vampires.

Very odd defence, I dont see why your opponent would not just block the 3 LOS men, then advance two squares and ignore the guys in the backfield. Then stall their time in the middle.

The vamps are ofc strong on defence but running 5 with 0 pro is asking for trouble. That being said Tarabaralla has a succesful 6 vampire team in fumbbl with 3 RRs & 1 pro so it can certainly be done..

By any chance do your opponents not go through the centre? I do find it odd if you still get gazesurfs after 3 seasons.

Also don't they spam MBPO to get rid of your thralls? You should be running fairly low in half2 if they did.
