My WE lino with a -1 Ma rolled 5-5 for his first skill. My first reaction was to give him the +1 Ma, but then i realized I could this wouldn't be very useful, so i gave him Guard instead (the second lineelf with guard)

I'd agree with most people who say they would give up an increase depending on the team and player. Last night I gave up a move increase for stand firm- for a Khemri mummy! That was a tough decision.

Of course with the vault rules, taking skills instead will happen more often.

Mv- would depend, too many variables.
That just about sums it up methinks
Isn't Ag an odd number and never a double? The only reason I can see to give it up would be if the max of +2 has been reached and you roll 11 for the thirsd time for that player on the SPP roll. Or do you loose that roll? Perhaps I should read the LRB more carefully.

A Saurus of mine got +Ag as his first skill (first skill of the team actually), but gave it up in favor of Block. I wish I hadn't now.

Often give up a double 5 and takes a trait, sometimes also normal rolls. It really depends on my players and team.
Also gives up ag if its a saurus or mummy or something with ag1.
Str i never ever gives up,if i just could get them ;)

my summary:

ST i always take
MA i almost always take (see exceptions later)
AG very dependent on the situation (on ag2, i generally don't take it - dwarves, BOBs, but on Bulls of course i do)

the exceptions to movement are only on double 5, not on 6+4, which i think you should always take:
- on a team with physical access, it is generally better to take a mutation.
- on a regular team, when the player is one trait away from being great (dauntless on a WE catcher instead of trying to turn him into a 1-turner, frenzy on a 4 ST, MB, Tackle, or Leap on an AG4 Blitzer, etc)

I rarely took movement anyway, and the vault rules mean I will take it even less.
Agility almost always, same with Strength, though a S3 100K goblin won't be worth it now, so probably not for stunty teams.

Depends on the race and position. 99% of the time I won't pass up the ST unless it a guy w/ right stuff. On Elves I'll pass up AG unless it's a Catcher or Thrower. MV is tricky, most times I'll pass it up unless I'm playing Wood Elves and it's a Catcher. for example here are some of my star players.

Doggwood Meggit WE catcher 11 2 4 8 w/ catch, dodge, right stuff, sprint, sure feet and shadowing

Reggie McDeadly UD wight 6 5 3 8 w/block, regenerate, frenzy, tackle

with the movement increases and my treeman I can go from endzone to endzone in 1 turn, where as my wight can compete with ever the ogres and trolls

why wouldn't you take +ST on a "right stuff" ?

and you know we are usually using rules that don't allow for a WE catcher to take right stuff, for example ?

3rd ed allowed right stuff on any player up to ST2. ST increase on a right stuff player, stunty or other, would mean you couldn't use right stuff anymore.
