I see your point, and I agree...JJB wrote:Yes, the only one to have access to strength skill - i.e. do you think they will all get skills after their first 2-3 matches? Unlikely. While after 2-3 matches, you should have earnt the money to buy yourself at least one more blitzer.
I remove a Berserker from the roster swapping him for a Lineman, to spare 40.000. I drop the Fan Factor by one, to earn another 10.000. I buy the 12th lineman or an Apo?!? I think these two ptions tend to be even, with a slight prefernce toward the Apothecary..
Actually I prefer Jump Up...my opponents tend to forget this skill and let their lonely players hanging around in prone Berserker's tackle zones!Dave wrote:start with at least 3 blitzers .. they are crucial to any norse tactic ...you need something special in a mediocre team .. frenzy is that

Maybe I can help you up with a very popular Team-Cockerel:
2 Blitzer
2 Catcher
1 Thrower
6 Lineman
Apoth
FF 8
Most of these Teams doing a good run and pass job. Catcher most of the time go for Block/Dodge, Blitzers for Streangh, Lineman already have all they need, first skills to give: Kick, Dirty Player, Strip Ball etc.
Buy a 3ed Blitzer as quick as possible. The Team is ok at passing and running game but with all your Blockers you already have enough power, so go for it.

I see..it was the idea I had after reading the others' replies. So, 11 players and an Apo. I think it's a good idea..too bad I fear I won't be able to test it against a worthy opponent before the first league game (Humans or HE)..apart froma a game against my nephew, but he still needs lots of training and won't be a probing test.Aksho wrote:Maybe I can help you up with a very popular Team-Cockerel:

Why start with 2 catchers and a thrower? They have no skills that are of any great use to a starting team - no Dodge, no Sure Hands. You would be better off with more blitzers. Maybe:Aksho wrote:2 Blitzer

Norse have 2 be flexible, you need a Thrower!
Catcher make sense because they are the first to get Dodge and you need some Block/Dodgers.
3 or 4 Blitzers are always good, but you need the agility-skills 2.

I'd rather go with Aksho's roster. Having 3 Blitzers in a starting team can also be a liability, because they always have to follow up and thus stay vulnerable if they can't go against isolated opponents. 2 are good enough to keep the sidelines open and with 1 catcher (or lineman) as support on each side, you'll be able to split the opponents defence.Nazgit wrote:Why start with 2 catchers and a thrower? I also like lineman heavy rosters, as they are basicly all blitzers, starting with block:
120k Ogre
400k 8 Line
180k 2 Blitzers
180k 3 RR
50k Apo
70k 7 FF
The Ogre ancors your line and is a huge damage absorber (AV9+Thick Skull). Together with the Apothecary and the 2 Blitzers, he'll almost guarantee you the number advantage on the pitch. Once you have that, ball handling becomes easy enough to do it with the linemen.
With Block on everyone, you don't have to spend a RR everytime a Pow/Skull comes up, so 3 RRs is plenty to also cover the 3+ ballhandling rolls. Make sure you use the Ogre defensively and do not block too much with him. I give my Ogre guard first and keep blocking last in the turn or move him into the largest pile of opponents if he's not in a TZ.

Never thought about such a roster. Maybe today in a pre-dinner game with my ol' friend I'll try it. Yep! Also, this gives me the chance to paint & field my Morgh mini..I bought it wto years ago and it's still in the box with prime on...Tim wrote:I also like lineman heavy rosters, as they are basicly all blitzers, starting with block:

It's an agressive roster, but if you manage to score it's the best one to avoid being damanged in the first games and deal out quite some damage yourself.

Not too much well...Tim wrote:Let me know how it went

I was aginst Lizardmen, an half game to let my opponent get back in the game mecahnics. He kicked and rolled a Blitz. Then I failed to pick up the ball twice, and on the third run failed to Catch the hand off. My Ogre rolled three "1" on the BoneHead rolls, and I rolled 12 "7" on the AR rolls against Skinks. Oh, I had two players sent off by the ref (two sixes).
Sadly, tonite I'm having the first League game and I will go for a more general roster, without Big Guy. I will keep trying the team for the future anyway, I think it has good chances (not considering unluck like yesterday). For me, right now, it's a bit too unbalanced.

The League started, and I decided to go for 2 Blitzers, 2 Catchers, 1 Thrower, 6 Linemen, Apo, 3 RR, 8 FF.
I already had my first game, against High Elves. I won 2-0, with just two casualties inflicted (one by the crowd) and one taken (by the crowd..mine, I suppose...
)
The game was pretty unusual, with two pitch invasions, a final riot and the Elves totally unable to handle the ball, or send one of my guys out of the pitch...
The rumor spread, the Grinders games are fun for the fans, and my Fan Factor went to nine. I earned 80.000 golds, and one of my linemen, who scored both the TDs gained a new General skill (I still have to decide..but I think I'll go for Leader, Dirty Player or Kick..)
I'm having the 2nd game against Undead..and those two mummies scare me A LOT (and also one of the most experienced coaches in the league), and the third against Amazons.
With the money I'm planning to buy a seventh lineman, and spare 30K hoping to get the 60.000 to buy a Berserker after the game against Undead (Mummies.... brrrr....
