Doubles on a dwarf longbeard
What would you give a longbeard who just rolled double 4's? I have been thinking and thinking and am totally undecided. I already have 3 longbeards with guard. Any ideas?

LRB 4..stand firm or dodge. Yes, dodge. It keeps the MV4 guys on their feet more...and MOST of the time, other teams don't use their limited number of tacklers on them.
LRB 5: Dodge is still good. Jump Up is also (helps, again, with the movement).
Another 'interesting' skill I've tried before is Pass Block. works good in LRB4 if the LB has stand firm already.

That's exactly what I do with them. They're annoying when they're Elves, but when it's a Dwarf that's like that? Eeesh, it's more irritating than Stand Firm in LRB5 (and it's good to have a mix of SF + SS, as then it's harder to cancel out.)Rune wrote:And side stepping Block, Tackle, Guard players are even worsefen wrote:LRB5?
Sidestep, sidestepping Blockers are a pain in the arse.
I really want to play against the coaches you play against. Round here having only a couple of dodge players on your team means that they always target the Blodgers with their Tackle/MB Players when there is no obvious target for a blitz. Being one of the few Blodgers on a team really makes you a target.Gortex wrote: Yes, dodge. dodge or sidestep would be usual choices to exploit the double
HMP is an off the wall suggestion if the cage gets bogged down.
Diving Tackle puts your MA4 player prone but is great in Combo and could be really effective
Sure hands could be useful, but it is unlikely to have much play unless the strip ball wardancers come flying into your cages often. plus unless you get a lot of touchbacks then handing off the ball to AG2 Longbeards is never fun.
alternatively ignore the double and load up on more GUARD. do that until you have 8-9 and then look at the rest of the development. 8-9 Guard players is the key to Dwarven domination of the centre.

Several other things to consider about taking dodgefen wrote:I really want to play against the coaches you play against. 1) You are likely to roll doubles on more than one player thru out the teams development. If you take dodge often, you'll eventually have more than one block/dodge player.
2) Tackle, tho a commonly taken skill, is still a relatively rare skill outside of dwarf/chaos dwarf teams. At least until you get into realy high TR/TV teams with lots of skills.
3) Players given tackle are OFTEN (NOT ALWAYS) specilized players designed to take down the ball carrier..with their skills chosen for this purpose. Longbeards/Blockers are not ball carriers (90% of the time).
So, even when the other team targets my longbeard/blocker with thier tackler it doesn't really matter much as that tackler is not going after my ball carrier.
dodge, in my experience, is usuful even tho it can be negated by tackle.
Even agility 2 players make a dodge 75% of the time if they have a RR to use.
Will there be times when the skill is useless? Of course. But those times don't happen quite enough to make it a useless skill choice.
*Oh yea, I forgot that Pass block was a general skill earlier..oops.
