Slann Catcher Rolls a 12 :(

Post by Warpstone »

Argh, one of those decisions that leaves me feeling like I'm about to waste a skill roll: my slann catcher (7,2,4,7) has rolled a +1ST as his first skill. A 50tv investment in Strength for a player that never gets stuck in (he used as a deep receiver or passer) seems like a lot to give up.

What would you pick?

I'm leaning towards either Accurate to really help the long passing game or just taking the ST (for reasons similar to why I still try not to waste anything on my plate).

+ST. Maybe he's not getting stuck in, but I'm sure your opponents are trying to get stuck into him. At ST2, he's (normally) only going to need one player to get a 2D block. At ST3, he'll need to expend at least one other player to have a go at your catcher, leading to gaps in the line elsewhere.

No question, take the +ST.

Look at it like this, it's turning an exceptional skink into an elf. Much more survivable in the long run.

Think of it more as a defensive upgrade then an offensive one.

Though you could give him Strong Arm instead, of course.

2+ leaps, 2+ Dodges, 2+ pick up attempts...

I'd toatally take +ST and make this guy into attacking player... Strip Ball, Tackle, Wrestle... all good for a player like this.

If you do take the doubles, take HMP and thank me later

I guess my concern about the +ST is that a Blitzer is already 7337 with similar skills (actually Diving Tackle, is even better) and better skill progression options for cage breaking ... although I am starting to lean towards taking the ST for Darkson's rationale.

Take the +ST. Much better on defence and as an auxililary blitzer.

+ST is my vote, for the same reason Darkson gave. It really helped having a ST 3 Skink, just expect some opponents to try and smash him with their MB blitzer.

With STR now adding 50k of Team Value... I'm not sure it's so automatic anymore.

I'd probably take it though. It just makes the player more versatile.

I got the same roll and took the ST. Don't underestimate the value of 2+ leaps instead of 3+ on your Blitzers.
