Double 1's on a Chaos Pact Mino

Post by Craigtw »

My Chaos Pact team has a minotaur who is definitely favoured!

He has racked up a whopping 12 casualties in 7 games and 3 MVPs now earning him his third skill.

On top of his starting skills he has Block, Stand Firm and ???

As the title of the thread says it was a double 1 that I rolled for him, and so am now deliberating what I should get him.

My thoughts are:

1) Dodge - increase his survivability in the mix, and put my sights on Break Tackle next.
2) Tentacle - with block and Stand Firm, this skill is almost begging to be taken. To be able to maintain his TZs at all times, he would be a nightmare to any of those catcher types who got too close!
3) Claw - there is a whole lot of AV7 in the league, so I have been reluctant, but even the norse have some AV8 guys, and most of the other teams do too...

the rest of the league is:
Chaos, Norse (the scariest!), High Elves, Skaven, Undead (comprised of all skeletons), and Underworld.

Here is the rest of my team:

Advice appreciated!

Given the other teams in your league, Tentacles wins over Claw IMO.

Definitely. Claw barely helds against any of the other teams in the league. Tentacles is a great support skill and goes very well with block and stand firm.

If you didn't already have Stand Firm then I might suggest Sidestep.

As it is, Tenticles is probably the best choice. Though Leap might be amusing (if completely pointless).

Oh, and Pro could be handy as well. Especially since he already has Loner.

Tentacles since I'm guessing your league already has plenty of tackle in it.

Not too much Tackle, actually. But the league is still young, so that skill will probably be a popular choice.

From a straight reliability point of view, have you considered Pro?

Yeah.... but there has to come a point where you have to accept that they are going to do what you want them to... most of the time. I accept that.

But with Tentacle as long as I can get him into position it is going to work a treat. With all the dodgy types and AG4 in the league, it is also going to be a real handy skill to have.

Tentacle was chosen.

It was more a suggestion because he looks to be moving towards being your go-to blitzer and it would be a shame to waste a blitz to the wild animal roll.

Pro build on that role.

Tentacles starts carving out a new, secondary role.

The real question is whether you want to specialize or generalize.

How was he being built to be a go-to blitzer? He's been built perfectly for the tentacle role. Next skill guard, and next potential double is dodge, then you have the perfect mino, since it does everything you need well without having to do anything.

I was thinking mostly the fact that he already had block.
With Bock and Pro he is a pretty reliable blitzer that can do a good bit of damage.

He's leaading the league in casualties, I would say he has already done a good bit of damage! :P

It's fairly easy for a Mino to get an early advantage in CAS.
I would look towards the skills you need to keep him useful when everyone else has 2-3 skills per player and can start really threatening him.
To me, the reliability of Pro goes a long way towards doing that.

Man, you are not going to let it go are you?

I hear what you are saying, but to be honest pro may have been my third (if that) doubles choice.

The real toss up for me in my mind was between Dodge and Tentacles, and Tentacles won. If he got Dodge then he could have his eyes on Break Tackle on the next advance and be really hard to put down, next to impossible to move, and able to blitz anyone within range! That would be one bad a$$ minotaur!

To be honest your whole argument about looking to the future when everyone else is advanced is an argument against yourself. As the teams develop there are going to be stars developing who can run circles around my mino with little regard for his TZs. Pro would do nothing except make him less likely to fail his Wild Animal roll. Whereas Tentacles (provided he can get to the right spot) is going to be useful whether or not he has gone Wild, and will also be able to tie up catchers who slip through the lines and hold players into a spot to ensure that they are going to take the beating I intend for them!

I must admit though, I never was a fan of the Pro skill. To me it is only used when you screw something up and even then it is only a 50% chance of a reroll. But this is coming from the guy who used to think that Kick was a waste of a skill choice! :P
