About time IMO.
One of the few reasons that have stopped me even considering FUMBBL.
Of course, it starts lots of arguments about TS...

Checked your stats Peter, nice understatement.
And all without resorting to power gaming with Slann!

Hmm, does FUMBLE allow Slann, but playing by the LRB4 Ruleset?

Thus there is a point in time when you shouldnt.

Forgive me, I was referring to SillySod being the highest ranked NAF coach with Slann. With a very impressive win rate over 2 tournies.

To me that sounds like your justification is TS min/maxing - which has nothing to do with LRB5 and little to do with game play. In fact what it smacks of is that the TS formula undervalues leader and probably overvalues +ST.
TS is a formula just like TV. Actually TV is just as imperfect and does undervalue and overvalue certain things... actually the two examples of leader and +St have the same weaknesses in both systems:
- leader is underpriced
- +St is often overpriced in comparison to alternative skills

Evaluating this has everything to do with gameplay in both cases. I'm not suggesting turning down the strength because it is expensive but because it is more expensive than an equally good choice (or one which is very nearly as good). Similarly I'm very fond of leader because it is so much cheaper than a RR. I probably wouldnt compare leader with +St directly but I'd compare it with guard (which I think is often equally good if not better than +St, guard is better on thralls for example).

+St is rarely a bad option but that isnt the same as saying its the optimal one. Big guys are great examples: a St6 rat ogre is great but is it really better than a St5 block one?

I also dont think that +St is overpriced in general. It needs to be a high price because some players get so much more out of it than others, wardancers for example.

This nice little guy got his collar bone smashed in todays game so now he is an expensive 6347 Dodge 160K player.

Shall I keep him???

After 9 games I already have three skinks with block (star player and two doubles).

Strength was the choise and probably this weekend I will know if it was the correct one. I will play norsca.

Going back to the +St issue, would it make a difference when you rolled D6?

I mean if its a first (6Spp) upgrade on say a thrall or hobgoblin would it be better to take +1St and fight to 16Spp's for another skill (say Block/guard) or if you had block already would it be almost an automatic choice?

I have a S4 D/Elf runner, he's pretty scary, Cage buster declares blitz, Runner uses dump off for 1Spp and then its 2 dice my choice on the cage breaker usually :D he's expensive but as it's a well developed team the TV is pretty high anyhow.

On certain players (especially elves) I think it makes a big difference what skill roll you are on when you roll the +St.

I'd say there's some good exceptions listed here...but nearly every S2, 3 and 4 player should usually take +ST, since it opens new possibilities for the team that wouldn't otherwise be there. The extra TS isn't really that much when comparing even 20k to 50k, and the player will if nothing else draw considerable attention (though they'll likely do much more).
