if you need to reliably punch something, its got to be the blockers. even the bulls aren't as good, as they dont come with blackle.
It depends on what you need to punch, no? If you need to knock down a Block player without Dodge, a Hob with an assist is as good as a CD with an assist or a BC by his lonesome, with or without Block. But yeah, you gotta position the Dwarfs or BCs so you'll always have one to deal with breakaways.

@Arthur: I've figured out the formula to calculate the value relationship between a TRR and an AC. I've just learned it, so I'm applying it any chance I get. I've been banking extra cash all this time, but now I understand: FF above your opponent's FF has pretty much the same effect on Winnings now as it always has; the major difference in Winnings terms is that all losses/ties are equal. The value of FF drops if you're not winning, but then it's pretty safe, has a stabilizing effect on the value of AC/CLs, by reducing the odds of giving up FAME 2, and shortens your climb to FF (and Winnings) relevance. That doesn't mean most teams should take it, but CDs at 1M gold have so much need for cash and TRRs, and are so vulnerable to thrown rocks and PIs, that the FF is a much better bargain than it is for most teams.

So there are no advocates for the minotaur here?
I guess reliability is the biggest issue with his price tag of 150k...

I intend to try the sucky Minotard next season (starting soon). He brings an addition of (admittedly unreliable) muscle to an otherwise slightly understrength team, and has the inestimable advantage of keeping the opponent's defense "honest" from the start of a league.

I have used a Mercenary Minotard to good effect at least a couple of times recently. Let's see if I can learn to use him without too many tears... I believe Grumbledook is a fan of the Minotard on the CD team.

All the best.

Surely you mean average not under!
Humans have less strength and block and they're your average team.

I can only think of a few team with more ST than the CD, they actually have more than the normal dwarfs.

Maybe by under strength you mean with less capability to block, or suck up opponent blocks, but then again I find them average, not below the majority.

Greyhound, I mean the aggregate ST of the best (most expensive) 11 players in the team. For example:

Khemri: 41
Chaos, Chaos Pact, Nurgle: 40 (after allowing +1 for Horns)
Orcs: 39
Vampires: up to 39 (if 6 Vampires)
Lizardmen, Norse, Undead: 37 (Norse also have Dauntless)
Necromantic, Ogre: 35

Chaos Dwarfs have an aggregate ST of 35 without the Minotard, 38 with him and his Horns. 35 is a bit light, 9 teams would have higher aggregate ST in practice. The CDs can easily get out-muscled, especially before they have plentiful Guard.

Hope that helps.

Your numbers, although theoretically correct are slightly misleading.
Vampires would rarely field 6 vampires on the pitch, not until a very high TV, Lizardmen and Ogres I know really well and although they can bring serious strength on some key players they are way behind on the rest.
Even if I let these 3 teams slip ( :) ) it's still only 9 out of 22 (or is 25 I am never quiet sure), and would put the CD bang in the middle => average strength.

I go with minotaurs later with CD's. It gives the blockers a chance to get guard. Then the rookie Mino can throw 3 die blocks. It makes him more reliable and protected.

Once he gets guard the blockers around him are tougher, and his frenzy can really push forward in the middle, if your opponents elect to get next to him. Either way, a mino dead center in a dwarf line practically guarantees control of centerfield.

I am also and advocate of 4 RR's on this team. But that is because your BC's and hobbies will swallow them up. It's important to have your dwarves run a solid core that your BC's and hobbies can anchor on, but both of them are bound to fail quite a bit. . hobbies because they are hobbies, and BC's because they are high risk high reward.

Joe's lineup with 2 BC's is the one I use...The 4th rr isn't necessary IMHO.

The tard can be a tasty addition later on, but I don't think I'd hire him until both bulls were at 16spp...you just have so many better damage dealing options. (I also like to build a frenzy BC, so he's even less valuable to me as a crowd pusher).

I tend to play the BCs as aggressive ballhunters on defense.
I leave the backfield sweeping role to a hob with Wrestle, strip ball...and a DP.
.....At least some of the time...I like to mix it up

The main problem I have with the minotaur is that he is a scooch away from being a wizards worth of inducment to your opponent. Your pieces are allreadt expensive and those cenatuars are just going to keep drinking s.p.p milkshakes until they are rocking the two skill tummy ache. You might as give your oppent a hole in your defense, the one thing you value most as a CD team
