Very late to this thread, but I think these are some of the best Norse conversions I've seen - sort of what I dream mine will look like (but knowing they never will :blue: ).

To make the I hollow out the helmet as far as I can, cut the space wolf head down till its really only the face left, and then force them together using curse words and superglue. Its not too bad to do if you have a dremel and I quite like it as the imperial guard helmets are quite good for different BB races I think. I can put a step by step together if anyone is interested?
Yes please.

Mark - thanks very much

Darkson - better late than never, and thanks! Sorry for the delay in replying, but I've put a step by step together for the heads. Takes about 10mins to do each one, which isn't too bad really.

1. pick your head! I've used the GW space wolf heads for these, but I've done a similar method for zombies and goblins before, so this can be adapted for different races.

Image

2. Start cutting. A really sharp blade on your craft knife makes this so much easier. With the helmet, I've removed all the sci-fi bumps and the icon on the front, so its now smooth all round. I've also cut a bit of the face off, as this saves drilling it out in a minute. The head has been cut horizontally just above the eyebrows, vertically in front of the ears, and most of the back I've carved off too. You only really need the face to make the conversion work, so you can be quite brutal with this step.

Image

3. Get a mini dremel and scoop some plastic out of the inside of the helmet. I use one I got in hobbycraft for £20 which works fine. Safety tip; don't be tempted to hold the helmet whilst you drill the inside out! Also be careful not to go far and push the drill out the top of the helmet, or you'll be starting again.

Image

4. When you are finished you should have a hollow helmet with a slight lip at the front. You could get away with not doing this stage, but doing it this way means the top of the forehead sits inside the helmet and makes the model look like they are actually wearing it, rather than it just being plonked on top.

Image

5. Fit the head inside the helmet with a bit of superglue.

6. Plonk the head on your torso

7. Add Viking horns to taste. The helmet should have flat sides, but I often have to fix my wonky cuts with a bit of greenstuff to join the two bits together.

And thats it!

I've finally paid up for the NAFC in Nottingham, so I reckon I need to finish the team to take there. I'm not a million miles away, couple of players and a base to do. I have finished my Snow Troll, I wasn't entirely happy with it when I put the brush down, but it is growing on me a bit now. What do you reckon?

love the info on the helmet swap..

as for the yhettee/troll.. great pose and he really looks angry, but the paintscheme on the skin tones says undead to me.. or nurgle.. this troll does NOT have regen, so I would stay away from greys and pallid flesh tones myself..

He is supposed to be a SNOW troll, so a whitish skin tone does make sense. Not sure what you would paint a snow troll if you didn't use white or grey (and don't say blue - a bit too kid's cartoonish, someone turning blue to show they're too cold).
Anyway, I think he looks good as is, but what do I know (it's not like I can paint well myself).

I like to skin on the snow troll too. It's a nice model - very rancor-ish. I didn't recall liking the Yhetee's when they got released, but this has definitely grown on me. Nice addition :)

Nice progress on the team. I am very impressed with the work that goes in to carving the head and helmet to have them fit. Beautiful execution of a not so obvioud but excellent idea.

I like the skin colour on the big guy just as it is. Not sold on the model but he seems to fit in fine with your converted werewolves.

Keep on going!

I'm wondering if the hair on the trolls head needs to be a different colour..?? black floppy hair is something I associate with emos, not snow trolls.. maybe that's what's out of place..? :-?

To me, it is the color of the wolf pelt that is off, especially the greenish hue resulting from the drybrushing. I quite like the color is the troll skin and hair!
