I always paint a team as a whole. So, primer, first layer, colour 1 on all players, colour 2 on all players etc., then a second layer, wash and highlights the same way, then numbers and basing. Maybe one lineman first just to see how certain colour combo's work out, but otherwise, it's an assembly line all the way.

It ensures they are all of the same quality and that I can number based on end result, particularly on lineman, and positionals (like throwers) that you usually only ever use one of (but I still want both just in case); the least good looking get the higher numbers that I will rarely use. It also forces me to also paint that 6th or 8th lineman that I would otherwise be tempted to skip, but that I will in the end be glad to have! :D

To me it`s less stressy and honestly, I`m not a top painter, but I like painting the stuff I DO have time fore, as well as I can manage. You definitely should try painting 1-by-1. I also had the feeling, that I was getting better and better during that process. When you start your team, I`ll be watching.

Another supporter of the 1-by-1 I guess. Thumbs up for that.

That is true, varying quality can be a problem, but most of the time isn`t. You also stated, that the least good looking ones get the higher numbers. Therefore I take that quality-volantilities can be an issue in all-in-1 teams as well. Of course, as you have also stated, it is LESS an issue, but judging by what teams I`ve seen around painted with this method, it just as well means, that they have a persistent low quality instead of an evolving, getting better one. Just to make sure nobody feels offended, I am not talking about any people on the forum or the ones I play against. What springs to my mind is some blogs I`ve seen...
Not to discourage you, but I'd paint at least 10 snotlings, maybe 12. You want 16 players if you can, and only rarely can you induce a starplayer (15 man team with 4 rerolls and an apo costs 1350, and that's without any skills), so that's 6 Ogres and 10 Snotlings. No. 11 and 12 are needed because, if you do the sensible thing and start with 4 Ogres so you can have 4 rerolls, your first purchases should be apo, snotlings 9 - 12, replace any fallen snotlings (or Ogres! :o ) and only then, once you have those 16 players, start saving for Ogre 5 and Ogre 6. And those redundant Snotlings will die before you get that 140k, no worries!
I started with 4 ogres and 7 snots, 3RR and an apothecary. Aside of the fact, that we don`t play that cometative in the Challenge² project, to many Snots in the beginning weren`t of any use to me anyway. One died in his first game and I didn`t mourn for him at all, since he will be replaced by a journeyman and I had 40K GP left. After the first game I got 30K, so in about two games another ogre will join the team. Reason behind this is, that I don`t want Snotlings to take up slots which swallow up SSP. In the end you are of course right, more snotlings are needed, but for starters they are doomed to do what they are best at - die. So there`s no reason to bust out the money you could`ve saved to get the next ogre early on.

Speaking of snotlings, I finished another one. Since the german tabletopwelt.de forum is down for maintenance, TFF is the first place this is shown.

I am a little freakminded about proper sizes for races in BB, so I changed the background of my teams snotlings a bit. From now on they will all be refered to as "small greenskins", including Goblins, Snotlings, Boggarts, Gnoblars, and so on.

You're making these yourself? Why are you not casting them up via the impact licensing deal? They're amazing.

Well I`m not actually making these myself, just reassebling some part of the 40K Grotbox with some GS around. Tell me if I`m wrong, but to multiply those would be a copyright-violation?

Thanks guys, these kind of supportive statements keep the motivation up. Still, there won`t be new players in a while, since I`m not done converting those and have the Legacy-Team Rotter on the schedule up next and a nurglish conversion for Loki, who gave me one of those cool, old Norse Catchers in exchange. After that, it`s going to be this guy - the coach.

Image

I actually don`t like the gnoblarmodels, but this guy just screamed to be used whith the hatted head from the Grotbox. The motivational squig is a bannerpole from the 40K nobz, which was a leftover. It`s kind of a habit for me, to give my teams a Coach with a "motivational pet". Maybe it was a little bit too much of WoW once... By the way, I saw Ponchos sculpture of a squig. That guy will probably become a turnmarker for this team, or motivational pet for a Goblin/Underworld-Team.

Don`t have a name for the fella yet, but I finally had a little time for painting and decided, it was time to paint something else than green and blue, which was a good choice, since I got to paint a little wood again and a Squig of course. Seriously, I am obsessed with the idea, that EVERY coach has got to have a "motivational squig" for his team. No matter the race.

That`s real easy done. Basecoat is Charred Brown from VGC, or the old Scorched Brown from GW (not the new one). Afterwards paint Bestial Brown in real thick lines onto it. Then it`s 50/50 Bestial Brown and Plague Brown VGC (or the old Snakebite Leather). Leave a little bit visible of the color before that. Repeat that step with pure Plague Brown. The last highlights are just added Bonecolor in two to three steps (or as bright as you would like it to be). There is also other and easier ways to paint wood, but this way it looks pretty old used. You can add a little detail by adding chipped spots onto the wood. Just paint a thin line of the original dark color on to a couple random spots and underline them with a veeeeery thin line of Bone.

Okay, the ain`t done yet, but it won`t get too fancy anyway. So I thought might as well post him as he is right now. Tried to write "Coach" onto the jacket and the basecap, but failed dearly. Aaaah hell, it`s a goblin who wrote it, right?
